Big problem with new "stuff"

I bought the following a week past from OC
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.40GHz (Socket AM3)
8GB in Total Ram
Corsair Dominator 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMD4GX3M2A1600C9)
Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H AMD 880G (Socket AM3) microATX DDR3 Motherboard
After installing and powering with a 550W PSU, I had nothing but problems.
Firstly, It would only boot using three of the 4 pieces of Ram.
The minute I added the fourth, it would not boot.
Reset the Bios and eventually downloaded new Bios firmware.
After numerous failed attemtps , I fimally got Windows 7 64Bit installed.
However the "Windows Experience index" gave a reading of 4.2 for both the Ram and the CPU. It should be way higher than that.
Also, when I tried to insert a Pen drive to the front Usb, the system crashed as if the power had been switched off.
This never happend in the back Usb ports.
After communication with OC, they suggested I use Mem Test 86+ to test the Ram. This I did and it showed no errors.
After this, they asked me to return the MoBo and I today recieved an email telling me the MoBo tested OK and is being returned.
Where go I go from here ?
 
is cool'n'quiet enabled in the bios? this will slow the cpu down that may affect the result.

whats the make and model of psu?
 
I did try optimized settings and fail safe settings.
Would that have made a difference to the Cool and quiet ?
The PSU is a Cic brand.
I dont get the MoBo back until Tues and am just looking for answers.
 
psu brand doesn't sound hopeful, wattage?(or should I say, what does the label on the psu claim it is?)

are you using the motherboards onboard GPU?

have you tried installing the four ram sticks into different slots/combinations.

did you have the addition 4pin or 8pin ATX cable plugged in?

I previously had a GeForce6100PM-M2 and an AMD Phenom 9350e Quad Core
and my ATI Radion HD 5700 running in this box with no problems.
I initially tried running the radion on the new MoBo but after the problems, I also tried the on board graphics.
The Radion card took power from the Psu via a square 6Pin
As for power to the MoBo, It had a 6pin for Power2 which I connected the 4 Pin to.
My previous board only had a 4 pin

The 24Pin, Power 1, took eight and four.

this isnt very clear to me.

the motherboard has a 24pin atx connector and an 8pin atx connector
 
The CPU power socket should be fitted with a 6 pin if it requires a 6 pin, my GB board with 870 chipset is 6 pin and the PSU supplies a cable that can be split apart if only 4 pin is required

I definitely want to know what this means, hopefully a typo, and he inserted the 20pin+4pin.

and the picture and specs of the motherboard on the Gigabyte website show a 8pin ATX connection by the cpu.
 
My "Old" board had a 4 pin 12V power connector and a ATX 24 Pin
The 24 Pin connection from the PSU is spit into a 4 and 8 which only join up one way.
The Graphics card connection can only fit the graphics card.
However the "New" board had a 8 pin slot for and I put the four pin 12V from the Psu into it.
So does this mean I need a PSU with the standard 24 pin AND a 8pin ?
If so, suggestions invited.

you dont need to put a 8pin into the 8pin hole, a 4pin is ok too, some Asus boards even have a plastic cover hiding half the socket for older psu's.

but having a noname psu with that expensive gear is worrying.

perhaps you could state where you live approximately and someone might be kind enough to test some of your stuff.
 
I think it's your PSU. Do not skimp/cut corners in any circumstance when choosing your PSU as picking a cheap one will result in smoke and dead parts. I recommend a 700W PSU if you want to upgrade in the future from a good brand like Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, BeQuiet! and many others. Rule of thumb: Find out who makes the PSU as anything made by CWT or Seasonic will be great.
 
It would be wise to run a memtest for each stick, one at a time, to check that there is no problems. And don't use WEI, it's not worth using that to rate your system.
 
I am happy to follow this advice but the niggling thing is , this PSU has been running my system without any problems, until now.
 
I only took it out to eliminate it from the problems I was getting
I fully intend to re introduce it when I get the system up and running.
Sometimes, I was not even getting a display.
