If you had a button in your home(s) since the age of 20 (in the style of an industrial emergency stop button) which would, when pushed*, instantly end your life... Would you still be alive today?

Would you really have been able to resist the temptation to push it through the rough (and drunken) times?

*Assuming it will end your life instantly and painlessly, and that it was somehow DNA coded so that you were the only person who could push it.

Edit: I mean something you clearly KNEW would end your life instantly and painlessly. (Not just some random mystery button). ;)

I'd be in the dead camp no doubt. Not through drinking, but general clumsiness when I'm in a rush in the morning.

Yup, would be dead by now...

Although, do we know that's what the button does, or is it just a random big red button?
If the latter, then 100% sure I would be dead by now, as I would have been curious, the former, like 90% sure, as I probably wouldn't believe it, so would wonder what it actually did :p

Curiosity is a bitch

lolz definatly dead by now either an ex GF would have hit it for me or something would have done me in in the last 50 years probably in a fit of drunken rage at a horde undead rogue ganking me in bg`s

Not me - I'd probably be dead as dog ****.

The only thing that stopped me doing it was how messy it would be for my family - I wanted to do it properly, so it was either a very tall building or a train :/

I managed to get through it though.

No - it would have been covered over in my early teens.

And there's no way I would have gone near it... Life / living is too important to me.... as is the effect it would have had on all my family and people who know me.

And I can't really think of any time I was sad / crazy / depressed enough to contemplate ending such a beautiful thing as human existance - or stopping my consciousness - with something as pathetic as a big red plastic button ;)

It makes no difference. Teens or 20.

Why 20 anyway ?

What you have to remember is..... if we all did have a magic red button, the human race would die out pretty quickly..... but the last few generations would be all the happy people - who don't really give a monkeys and have never really had negative thoughts or feelings about ending it all

So it might be a lot of fun for the last few years...:)
