Anyone using these? Just had an email from Wex to say they're in stock. As they're notoriously hard to get hold of one on a whim, I've bought one. Come payday on Monday, I'll buy a mount :D

Just thought I'd mention it as when I first started browsing these forums, there were a lot of people doing long exposure photography. Anyone still doing any? Seems to me that the weather will slowly start turning nicer (in theory) so I'll have more chance to get some generic river/waterfall photos in during summer when I'm off in July :)

I love long exposure effects but not sure i'd pay £95 for a filter, I find its easier to wait until dusk then just do a long exposure then!

I've always wanted to do it, but the expense put me off. Currently I'm trying to find something of interest to do, so this is cheaper than splashing out on the Canon 100mm macro lens :D

I didn't want to read that. Spent the same on an ir filter before so would still want one of the big stopper :( pc upgrade comes first.

ive done a few long exposure shots ElDude and am pleased with the results. I use a welding mask lens which cost about £3 from a car parts shop. I fix it to my lens with a ring of blue tak and this works well. It takes around 9 stops so a cloudy day shots needs around 30secs at f11. The shots end up with a green cast but this is easily removed useing the eyedropper tool in dpp and selecting something in the shot thats light grey or white like a stone or rock. The big stopper does look awsome though and i think you will have some fun so please put up some pics when you have tried it out.

here you go,

Ah yes, I remember this being mentioned a while ago. Looks really nice that. I just need to find a decent location. I know of one area, but need to time it so it's sans chav.

as throttle said you can use wielding glass for long exposures, i have read a lot of thread on the net where people have bought wielding glass cut it down to size then attach it to their lens. now trick abit is attaching it to you lens as there many way of doing it, the best way i read so far is you buy the corkin filter holder plus the connection ring to attach the holder to your lens, then you cut the wielding glass to shape and size so that you simple slip the glass into the holder. now the plus of this method is that the holder can hold three filters, so you can cut out some more glass and stack them so that you can have even long exposure or if time of day you doing it is very bright or really sunny then stack these glass will let you get the exposure you what. now i haven't tried is method myself as i actually got the corkin filters so i just use them.

here a long exposure i do with the corkin filters. exif info should be on the flickr page so just click on the picture.

as for marco you can try extenion tubes or raynox 150/250 to your lens this will allow you to do marco photography for under £70 maybe less

I've got a Sigma 105, which is a great little lens, but I really like the colour reproduction on the Canon lens. Realistically though, I should upgrade my 12-24 to the newer, sharper one. That being said, I might get a 10-20 or some other wide angle lens for long exposure landscapes. I've got a few things I need to purchase, and and losing my marbles trying to figure out what to get.

I NEED a flash as my mate has just got a good group of lads together for a new band, and I want to try some gig photography. Not sure what to get, and the new flashes seem extremely expensive, so may stick to the 580 to keep price down.

I still haven't got a tripod upgrade that I've been putting off for years, despite asking here and other places for advice, as I always find something else I need more, and make do with my old Sherpa. I could really do with a decent one with a good head that can be used for landscape as the one I have vibrates in slight wind.

I also need a Strat guitar as I sold my old one as it annoyed me :D

I seem to have lots of ideas at once, all messing up my forward drive!

well jessop do some good flash for under £100 mark but if you want excellent flash with all the bells and whistle's you be looking at the Canon Speedlite 430ex and above models.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. My trouble is, I tend to buy things with a look to the future, so getting the 430 I know I'd just compare to the 580 and think, "do I really want to risk realising I need more from it in future, and buying twice?". I over think things at the best of times :D

well other thing is if you did buy twice you could hook the other flash to a tripod or to a shoe so it sits on the floor/step/box/table/window ledge etc and fire the flash off remotely so that you had flash at another angle.

Thanks to the op, I have been after one of these for ages and they are as rare as hens teeth at the moment!!

Should be arriving on Wednesday! :)

I waited something like 3 months for my Big Stopper to arrive.

There's a few for sale on The Bay at £195+, so at £95 from WEX you can buy and then should easily get your money if it's mint in a few months.

I just picked one up, love it!

I'm pretty tempted, I've a YN465 which has developed a small fault due to me dropping it, sometimes it just switches off, I think something came loose :p

They're obviously not as good with respect to quality/performance as the 580EX's, but at 1/3rd of the price, they're definitely worth it from what I've seen.

Yeah, I thought it'd be appreciated. I wanted one when I first started out with my 300D, but after I bought the 12-24 I realised I couldn't use one because of the rear mount, etc :D

Just need to splash out £114 on Monday when I get paid, for the mount.
