made by one player signed by a club at the start or during a season ?

This topic is all about those players who were signed for a club then went on during that season and further on that made a massive impact to that club.

Examples of this are say

Juninho for Middlesbrough during his first spell
Ronaldo at Barcelona when Bobby Robson signed him
RvN for Man Utd

So who do you think was the best ever signing for a club the player that made the most impact and the player that set that team on fire on the route to glory ?

Asprilla for Newcastle made quite a big impact can't remember if it was his first season there though?

EDIT

Ahh didn't realise it was supposed to be our own teams. Suppose it'd have to be Vieira / Petit then.

EDIT 2

LOL think i've finally read it right, didn't realise it was for out of the first season too. I would say Pires or Henry.

ok due to the repeated editing i assume my original post makes about as much sense as Chelsea's seeding in the CL. :p

Here goes again.

THe biggest impact by any player in any club during there time there, it doesnt have to be yer own team BTW

Andy cole for newcastle in his first season.. scored 46? Cost 1.75 mil from bristol city? Sold him on for 7? Best buy of the decade.. last one.

Gazza for spurs 19990/91 first season won the fa cup.. played for England .. semi's. Was that the same season? Anyway after that season he was never the same!

Stuart rimmer for Walsall! bought him when we had lost 14 matches in a row.. came on as a sub against Chelsea in a 7-0 ehitewash and missed a penalty (7-0 to chelsea, Gordon Durie scored 5 !) at home... next match away at Sunderland he scored a hat - trick and we won 3-0 after losing 15 matches in a row.. club record lol. We still went down but he got a few more goals that season and was on fire the season after. Season 88/89 i think.

Was Pires 2nd Season!

Ian Wright?

The best impact tho has to be Wenger. I know he's not a player but in his first full season he got us the double.

remember this can be any signing from all over the world during any period of time for any club.

To me the best signing ever Was Maradona at Napoli as he almost singlehandedly dragged a average Italian side to Serie A championships and European Success.

OK ignore my previous posts :D, I was only looking at recent players. I'd say Wrighty, Adams or Bergkamp but i'm crap at making up my mind lol. I suppose it's gotta be Wrighty really cos of all the goals.

nothing apart from scoring 1200 goals ;) Also his goals for brazil helped them win 3 World cups, also the one world cup he got injured in they didnt win and got knocked out early iirc, so it showed how important he was to them

maradona was the greatest but pele was also great.

Brazil aint a club team is it last time I chacked ?

I never said Pele wasnt great either did I ?

playing for a second rate team in brazil doesn't compare to slogging it out in the hardest league in the world and getting kicked the crap out of in the process imho.

anyway back on topic please. Also did pele actually change clubs at all during his career in brazil ? I know he went to play in Major League but didnt he play for the same brazilian club team all his career ?

probably did play for the same team.

I never said i didnt agree with u either

sorry mis-read the qu, thought it was club+country...

who for though ? and to be fair Pele did nothing at club level of note. which is one of the reasons Maradona is the greatest player ever.

Can't agree with that at all, and you didn't say what level the club had to be at. Is it less of an impact if he is in a lesser team?

Every player has a 'first season' at a club whether they change clubs or not, and at 16/17 when he first played he made an immediate impact.

And I believe Pele made a bigger impact in his first season - even at such a tender age - than anyone else.

He did actually sign for another team (Cosmos) a year after retiring, and brought proper football to the yanks. It opened up the americans to football, and if you're looking for impact, the entire country played football because Pele played in their country, don't think you could ask for any more impact than that.

gilly i did point out in my post that pele went at the end of his career to play major league i.e in america

but the point of the thread was the biggest impact for a club that a player made who was bought, not who was homegrown talent.

but fair enough on the grounds you have stated Pele did make a huge impact however i disagree with him being the one that brought proper football to america, why you ask simply because of the players he was playing with at cosmos who at the time who had the likes of Franz Beckenbaur playing for them as well.

I was intending for mainly transfers to be brought up simply to remind us all of the achievements of certain players at clubs in the past and the impact that the correct or inspired single transfer can have to change the fortunes of any team.

In that case there can be only one. And though it riles me so much to say it:

Eric Cantona

[edit]Closely follwed by Alan Shearer, Chris Sutton and David Batty for Blackburn, who consequently won the Prem.
