Biggest next gen difference?

SNES/MD > PlayStation era was the biggest jump IMO.

Probably the only time I've been truly amazed at a games graphics was when I played Wipeout for the first time (and Gran Turismo later in the PSone's life)

Agreed.

I remember playing Gran Turismo for the first time and thinking it was almost life like which had never been the case of the N64 with its cartoony image.

Although both were great consoles for the time. The N64 suffered from the lack of storage by using cartridges being around ~200mb.

I'd agree with the MD/SNES to PS1 was the biggest jump. I remember playing ridge racer and it just seemed too good to be true!

A few years earlier when i had an amstrad cpc 464 and most people had spectrums of c64's, The Amiga was the computer everyone wanted. I remember going to a friends who had managed to convince is parents to buy him one. We played ghosts n goblins and 'after the war'. While it looked a lot better than the amstrad, I was slightly disappointed. "better than arcade" was the term peeple were using and it clearly wasn't. Still had 2 Amigas though

The biggest jump was the dreamcast. Who can forget that Sonic intro for the first time?

My mouth was literally on the floor for that entire game.
The dreamcast was a fantastic console. Such a shame sega dumped it overnight like they did. I finished sonic 1 and almost finished sonic 2 (got slightly bored of that 1, seemed to be in some space station most of the time i think?)

The only notable jump is definitely - Snes/Megadrive to PSone

A 2d to a 3d world. I always remember the T-rex Demonstration :D

And it could also play audio CDs

Think when I fist played a few of the better games on the 3DO, remember some.

That and an un healthy addiction to Need for Speed and Return Fire.

Although I think the PS1 was probably the biggest leap in terms of visuals, let's not overlook (although most did) online gaming on the Dreamcast, not brilliantly executed but years ahead of its time.

Yeah, i went from FIFA 97 on the MegaDrive to FIFA 98 on the PS1. I'd never actually played on a Playstation before buying one with FIFA 98 (road to world cup '98 or something).

I'll never forget when i saw the game intro (with blur song 2 music) and then started playing. My jaw hit the floor i thought it was so amazing!!

the arrival of PS1 was when i stopped using a PC for gaming. up until then computers were my main focus for gaming from Atari 400 through ST, Amiga, 486 and Pentium. although i have PC's that can play most games, i've never really felt the need to go back. apart from Halo 2 that is ;)

For me, PS1 to Shenmue. (Dreamcast)

Shenmue looked amazing when it came out, still looks better than most games on PS2/Xbox/GC probably.

one of my favourite games ever! I didn't get shenmue 2 with it being in japanese with english subtitles.

Shenmue II was much better, the fact that it was Japanese made it better for me, the voice acting in the first game was pretty grim at times, although it may have been equally bad in the second I didn't notice because obviously it was in Japanese.

Made it feel more authentic IMO.

the huge leap from the snes and megadrive to the ps1 - the tekken inro screens blew me away as did ridge racer
this was also when pc gaming seemed to take off
i remember buying a 3dfx card with my student grant and my ps1 owning mate being blown away by how good tomb raider 3dfx looked - and i think the res was only 512x384

One in-generation difference of note is from Tekken to Tekken 3. The difference is phenomenal.

Other than graphics (I went from my megadrive to an n64 with mario, banjo kazui etc) I'd say its online gaming with the dreamcast and then made even better on the xbox.
