O O O O O! *waves hand about* you forgot the civ series :( used up far more of my time than any of the other options, though football manager will be the next thing to ruin my life....

Counter Strike, easily, been playing since 2001 on a trusty DiamondMax 56k.

CS:Source could never truly match 1.6, but I'm hopeful Valve will let Turtle Rock loose on a new MP version.

No age of empires or civ series ? :(

In that case
1: Transport tycoon series
2: C&C series
3: Battlefield series.
4: Total war series
5: CoD series.

So much footy fans here :p.
I really became soooooo bored when I tried FM :p.

I know at least five of my mates who still constantly play champ man 97/98. they say its got too much since then. slightly off topic i know but that has to say summit. a strong following after 10+ years

Either Diablo or CS:Source, went for Diablo in the end as I've spend agesssss on that game.

Now even longer with the new Median XL mod!

People are confusing 'best ever PC games' for 'biggest timesinks'. I seriously doubt you guys are spending hour after hour on single player games. C'mon guys read the poll. Counter-strike is a separate entry and that gets even less. It doesn't even make sense.

I have indeed read the question wrong, however:

How can you spend hours and hours on half life . Or most SP games for that matter.

I spend thousands of hours on transport tycoon as a kid, hell, when I got it I was 7 iirc or so I got up at 5am just to play the game :D for a while after I got it. And I ran home after school exited to play TTD again :D.

More recently, I've spent quite a lot of time in civ4 games and before that civ3 games.

Used to play age of empires 2 for 4 or 5 years in a clan, and age of empires 1 a lot on SP before I got aoe2, I loved the scenario editor & making my own battles. And I SOOOOOOOO hated the bloody population limit @ 50 :p.

I played mohaa for ages every night when I discovered MP on it, was hooked for ages and sure I have more than 1000 hours on it.

C&C series: Not really, until Generals that is, I simply finished RA and RA2 twice and had a few skirmishes but most time went into skirmishes and online in Generals.

Most modern games aren't that addictive as games used to be unfortunately :(.

If the poll is about time played, why aren't the gta series in the list (they should be in too if it was a poll about the best games) ? Sooooooo much hours of VCMP, MTA: SA and SA: MP there for me. And sp too off course, finished vice city many many times and san andeas too.

FM/CM by a huge distance... they're by no means my favourite games of all time... but I just spend so much of my life playing them with different teams, countries... different tactics, different mentalities...

There's definitely a "just one more match before bed" mentality.

Got to be an MMO, in my case the first Everquest. Wasn’t much else around to compete with it.

Played it for nearly 5 years, and never got to see the end content before another expansion was released. Sure the top guilds would be repeating the same old end content for months and then race through the new expansion to enter farming mode.

Being in disadvantaged Britain I was stuck on dial-up with a 2 hour auto disconnect. Combined with a poor phone line I would suffer from regular disconnects resulting in coming back and then journeying to find my corpse. It was only in the last year or so I joined a decent guild, and got to see the previous expansions end content. Was the best MMO experience I had to date, due to the player base.

/Edit: Ok I missed the point of this thread!
