Biggest 'WOW!' factor from a component you've upgraded?

S3 Savage 4 and P3 450mhz

To an Athlon64 3200+ and GeForce 4800SE { Later slapped in a 6600GT when the G4 Died :'( }

Then from that:

To e6850 and 8800GTX, while at the same time from 19" CRT to a 24" LCD :D

The Powercolor 9800NP OcUK did about 4 years back for £110ish was pretty amazing I seem to remember, went from 12k in 3dm2001 with a 9600 Pro to 19.5k with one of the 9800 ones :)

Upgrading from a nasty old 15" 800x600 CRT to a 17" 1280x1024 TFT monitor was pretty good though :)

hmm

ive had quite a few, getting my first 1x cd-rom drive (needed a soundcard with a panasonic connector)

Upgrading from an S3 Virge 1mb gfx card to a 16Mb Riva Tnt

Upgrading from a celeron 600 to a P4 3ghz

Upgrading from a riva tnt 16mb to a 64mb 3d prophet gts (cost like £300)

Biggest WOW I ever had was building a P4 [email protected] RDRam system using an Abit TH7-2. Was the quickest system I'd ever used, using Windows 2k was incredible so fast it blew my mind. Convinced me that the P4 was certainly built to use the serial nature of RDRam :)

My 2 biggest wows...

17" Sony CRT to Mitsubishi 21" CRT

Nvidia GF 256 to Radeon 9800

(Yes they were a while back!)

I don't seem to get the wow factor nowadays when upgrading....

17" HP CRT > 19" Veiwsonic Widescreen (wow, my first panel monitor)

Last December...

Powercolor X1650Pro > Gigabyte 8800GTS 320 (this was an amazing jump in perfomance)

Tomorrow...

19" Veiwsonic > the infamous £135 OcUK *B* Grade 24" (say no more...)

EDIT (28/8/08) Massive WOW factor for the 24"!!

Biggest wow by a country mile was getting a CD-ROM drive (single speed!) when they first came out. Sooo much stuff on one little disc :)

I upgraded whole PC in one go because the old one was beyond help interms of current tech..

Went from

AMD Athlon XP 2400 2.0Ghz
Some old ASUS mobo
Geforce 4200 Ti Ultra
1gb DDR 400 RAM (2x512)
40GB HDD

to..

3.4Ghz Q6600
MSI P7N Platinum
2x 8800GT's
4GB DDR2 800 RAM
500GB HDD

Simply blown away by it in comparison to my old PC :p:p

Non-acclerated 3D >>>> Diamond Monster Voodoo 3D 4MB

Coloured Lighting
Filtered Textures
Glide Yummyness

Canopus Pure 3D Voodoo 1 6MB.

similar for me

I bought an orchid voodoo1 card (moving from an s3 virge :) )and was blown away by tomb raider

and my latest build...going from a s939 x2 4200 and a 320mb 8800gts to a q6600 and a 4870...makes huge difference in graphics quality and speed for me.
