Hello,

So I finally passed my test and went out on my CBF500 for about an hour and a half last night, the whole time the temp gauge didn't move very far above cold, only when I got home and stopped did it rise to just under 'just right'. Surely this isn't normal?

what temp was it reading?

my bikes old cbr 600 , and r6 would both sit at around 50/ 60c in the cold weather
my rsv 1000 will sit at 70 and in the summer around 90.
as said above could be the thermostat is stuck open.
or a bad connection / sensor. all are as likely.

Did the idle revs pick up to the right level? Did the bike perform as normal?
If so, nothing desperately bad and, as mentioned, likely just a dicky temperature sensor.

it will rise if your stationary? is that what u mean when you got home

it wont get hot when your riding

As in stay around the cold mark the whole time? Other bikes I've been on have only had 'I'm too hot now' lights so I don't know how it's supposed to be.

The bike felt fine to ride, this was the first time I rode it though so I'm not sure what its supposed to be like but no obvious issues.

if it goes BANG then's the time to worry:D

the temps don't move much tbh,esp this time of year when riding around,if crawling in traffic or stationary the temps rise and if left long enough the fan will cut in and cool things down a touch

It won't get hot, but it should get up to it's normal running temperature (80-85ish) if the thermostat is working correctly.

My Fireblade had exactly this problem; took ages to warm up and on a cool day wouldn't go much about 60C unless stopped in traffic. The thermostat was stuck slightly open, a new one (at ridiculous cost) completely fixed it.
