I went the Cbt 6months on a 125 and the DAS mod 1 & 2. To be honest I think the 125 experience will teach you how to use and control a bike better than jumping on a 600cc for your first time. I also feel that the resale value of 125's remains the same. You won't lose money selling it on if you haven't trashed it!
People are saying that CBT doesn't prepare you for safe riding; I can agree with this to a certain extent, but that said the DAS course makes you at the very best a "safe enough" rider.
There is so much more to safe biking than is tested in MOD 1 & 2, and people saying that that is the end point of their training is worrying.
In summary I think both routes are acceptable, no doubt the extra experience gained from a few months on a 125 would not go amiss. The most important thing is continuing your training post DAS with an IAM or Rospa advanced rider qualification!
