hey guys finaly got enough for my first bike am 19 nearly 20 but have an agreement with my uncle.
if i buy a 125cc sports bike when i hit 21 hes going to buy me a nice new Daytona or fireblade my choice. but for the time been i really need to find out which of these 2 bikes are best for me as a starter ok

Honda NSR 125 cc

or

Honda CBR 125

which of these 2 is better i want one that looks good and sounds good my freind owns a CBR 125 and it sounds sweet but i dont really know what the NSR sounds like.

so anyhelp would be great thanks.

Well i got my son the Nsr so im maybe a little biased :P

Cbr is slow/skinny with titchy tyres .. Buts its also one of the best selling bikes in the uk .

Nsr is one of the last decent 2 strokes...quickish and decent build ..Parts are cheap and it uses proper tyres !! Lock is limited so dont expect many feet up U turns though .

Its a tricky area ..I really struggled to get my lad summit...I really wanted a Dtr but there are so many dogs and there very expensive. The do a super moto type one which looks the nuts but you wont see much change from 2k ish .

I finally picked up a 2001 Nsr with 12k miles with minor damage form a low speed spill . Needed tyres/Chain and sprockets and some odds and ends but its all finished now and just waiting for my son to get a new job so he can insure it .

I am going to vote CBR, purely because I had one, had no problems and it was the perfect learner bike for me. If you are only planning on keeping it a few years then the CBR will run fine, I ran mind every day in all weathers and not so much as a blown bulb, even when i binned it!

Yes the NSR are known as one of the more reliable 2 strokes, but to be honest I prefer the sound of a 4 stroke, just doesnt sound like a scooter up behind you :)

Yes I agree, its really small and skinny, but it doesnt have much power so it needs to be really.

At the end of the day its up to you, just informing you of my personal experiences with the 4 stroke 125's :)
 
A mate of mine has the CBR and it has proven to be a very good buy, runs pretty sweet, does look a bit puney though.

Have you considered an aprilia RS 125? Or are they the only 2 that you are intrested in?

when you rev it a bit it sounds **** !!!!

sounds like a moped with a hole in exhaust. i will record sound of mine sometime..

but at high revs it *almost* sounds like a performance bike :D

performance, looks, and cumfort wise NSR is better.

in terms of reliability.... cbr.

Given the choice between a 2-Stroke 125 (NSR) and a 4-Stroke (CBR) I'd go with the 2-stroke, you're getting a power stroke twice as often which is why performance will be much better.

Personally I don't think your uncle will be doing you a favour buying you a bike that is more than 100BHP over what you are used to, after only a years experience. Even a sports 600 would be a huge leap, but at least it would be slightly more forgiving.

Nothing wrong the reliability of an NSR providing you look after it correctly. Use decent 2 stroke oil, regular servicing and all will be well.

Fit a micron exhaust to derestrict it and some race reeds and you'll be well away.
 
I am also thinking about learning to ride, not sure whether to wait for DAS (I'm 21 in November) or get a 125 over summer instead. However if I was to get a 125, I don't think I'd go for the CBR, it just looks so skinny and useless. My 125 choices are either the NSR 125 or the Aprilia RS125, both look much nicer, and for looks is pretty high on my list (hence why I also want DAS ;))

well ok.. let me rephrase that.....

a 2 stroke has to be well looked after and needs lotsa money just to be kept in a OK condition.

but im happy with that
 
So would I, for certain.

But its pretty expensive, IF you dont mind paying that and can afford it then fantastic, but its a big if.
