Bikes: Twin lights more dangerous than single?

My FZ6 (well now deceased as off last saturday) had only one headlight on all the time, the other one was used for full beam. but My previous bike the 2003 yamaha Fazer had both headlights on all the time. I have noticed that most new bikes now just about only have one headlight on all the time for the reason said by the OP, i agree with the reason aswell after being knocked off the 2003 fazer at night.

My 2007 sv650s has 2 dipped and 2 main beam lights too. Although i can see the argument about looking like a far away car! I may disconnect one for a month and see how many cars i get pull out on me as its been getting too frequent of late!

I'm probably being really dumb, but surely 2 lights or 1 if something is coming you don't pull out?

Or is it that they look like a car in the distance, but are actually very close? The latter would make more sense :)

Hmmm as said above a lot i dont know any bikes that have both headlights on at same time and if they do then its the damn bikers fault for having full beam on :p and as for more dangerous... HOW? lol did he think to pull out on them because they were cars and going slower or something?

My R6 does, im sure my mates Ninja does, my mates older CBR does, my mates R1 does and my other mates gixxer does too.

It was a silly "Euro" thing that ended up all bikes after a certain date ( cant remember when ) with twin lamps up front only have one on when low beam was switched on.

Previous to that date, older bikes like EXUP's, old shape Gixxers and ZXR's etc, all had two lit headlights up front.

I find it a bit daft really and as some folk have already said:-

One light or two, whats the difference?. If a driver is sat at a junction and sees either one light or two approaching to pass, why on earth would he/she pull out in front of the vehicle?.

Also agree with previous postings regarding noise from exhausts.

Anything and I mean anything that helps other "sloppy" not paying attention road users, realise there is a two wheeler approaching is good in my book, which is why despite having been stopped and fined on a few occasions for an unbaffled race can, I will continue to use my RSV with a seriously deep base toned, "illegal" and rather loud Blue Flame race can on it no matter what. ;)

Simply because the noise it makes has saved my bacon on more than one occasion where Mr.McGoo has failed to see me but thought "What on earth is that noise?" and had a look around his peripheral area before moving off.....

On dip theyre both on? must be only recent few years most of them are 1 dip and 1 for full beam, probably a cost and weight saving thing.

One light on for dipped both lights on for main beam (05 636 ninja)

Sports bike and faired naked bikes (fazer 1000,hornet 600S bandit 600s etc) have twin lights.

Naked bikes and Harleys have single lights.

I dont know how anyone couldnt tell a bike and a car apart, for a start a bike doesnt have like 2ft+ between the lights anyway!

I think that's the whole point. Blind people on the road will see that and think 'oh look, thats a far away car' and then pull out. It's not fair these people are still on the road, but in the meantime would you rather have one light on or have someone injure you or worse.
