You can sell your in-game items but not all can be sold.

I would click on Inventory and click on your item then on the right side it will give you details of that item, it will also say sell if it can be sold.

Vintage Trill's Hat is going for around £45.00

To market you have to buy something recently I think.

bill hat is called vintage now and it shows 45 to £40

So everyone who has lfd2 has this cap, so must be cheap

I got a potato powered miners hat from someone for an arma 3 invite

I got asked to trade bills hat all the time, so many trades as soon as I attempt to even play TF2

I have no idea what its worth, there are different versions, one of these was back in the day when the hat was bugged or something, you sent in a support ticket and valve changed something on the hat which made it more popular.

I often wonder what the point is with all these random items in my Steam "inventory". Just seems a bit silly to me.

Its a form of currency. People buy them even if they have no interest in it, because it can be traded. Especially anything limited edition.
Why did people act so silly over bf2 stats, remember that. They didnt even enjoy the game they had to go to such extremes, it was about raising the number on a stats page as high as possible, so this makes simple straightforward sense in comparison

I recently traded my Bill's Hat that I've had for years for 8 Team Fortress keys and 3 low priced Steam games. the keys are used to unlock crates in TF2 which contain yet more carp. The worth/price of keys fluctuates but I sold mine for £1.40 each. A Key currently sells for £1.50 on the Steam Market place so it's worth about £12.00 in to your Steam Wallet.

Yea what is this, how do people know what stuff I have as soon as I get in a game?

Played last night for a bit as I saw there was an update and I got an acorn crate drop, mins later on a different server some guy joined and asked if I wanted to trade for it??

Sold the thing for twenty pence then lol

How much are mac ear buds? worth people keep trying to trade with me for them.

Earbuds are worth $36.

Bill's hat isn't worth £40 btw. It depends on the version but the version most people have is worth 6-8 keys, or about a tenner.
