Recently I've found Google Maps are slipping. Bing seems to have more up to date maps.

I still use Google maps on my phone as the sat nav. However when needing satellite view for anything, Bing Maps trumps Google Maps.

Cool story bro, poo letterbox, nuke etc.
 
I didn't know that :) but still, it's possible to use Google Maps instead of Waze. They have different updates. Waze is social, I haven't seen that from Google Maps.
 
Bing maps all day long, it has an OS explorer map layer, which you would normal have to pay several hundred £ for. Especially useful for the hikers, mountain bikers etc.

Here maps for sat nav, free and can download entire regions, unlike stupid google implementation.

It really isn't. That's the point of this thread. Google Street view and Satellite view is out of date compared to Bing Maps.

Bing maps satellite view has crisper, sharper images too (compared to Google's pixellated satellite view).

I've always used Google Maps but just had a quick go on Bing Maps and it's quite impressive. I haven't used it in ages but they're clearly improved it a lot, and the interface is quite similar to Google. I wonder what kind of traffic info they use compared to Google's live traffic, because the two seem to disagree on routes.
 
must depend on the area. Here, bing's aerial view is much lower quality, there's no streetside/street view and the map doesn't have the 2nd part of the road that was built in 1994/5
 
Google's 3D mode is impressive for it's scale, I'm not sure how they do it; I guess elevation data that's accurate enough for builds + merging street view images onto the 3d model.

Bing isn't that up to date. They haven't even started building Trinity centre in Leeds according to the images. That started about 5-6 years ago.

EDIT: The image quality is a lot better however.

Hi there, I just searched Bing Maps on play store on my sony z5 premium and I can't find this app? does it go by a different name?

I found Waze straight away and I'm wanting to try out both apps after reading this thread.

Been looking at Bing just now. It's rubbish for my area. There's developments here that have been here some time now and they aren't there.

Both maps are over 18 months out of date but its pretty clear which one has crisper, sharper images.

As others have said the only bonus is the OS explorer option which is indeed awesome.
 
Around where I live Bing has higher detail satellite/aerial views but they are also much older than Google's and there isn't any street view for miles on Bing while Google has almost everything covered.

Until Bing offer all the areas that Google cover streetview for me it is.
 
Waze for Sat Nav all the way.

The social aspect encourages traffic reports, road closures, traffic and hazards on the road.

You receive points (or karma if you like) based on how many people find your reports useful.

You also clock up points for miles travelled.

I could barely speed, even if I wanted to but it has up to date mobile speed camera locations, along with the usual average speed / static cameras.
