binge drinking

I am 19 and people at uni are unable to control their drink intake. They are sick everywhere, dont remember anything of the night before etc etc you get the idea.

Something needs to be done Raising the age to 21 WOULD work, but then it isnt fair on the 90+ % of us who do it sensibly.

Why does it have to be fair?

Actually, a lot of the problem stems from people going out on the lash and getting hammered at bars, clubs, etc. If the drinking age was raised to 21, then they wouldn't get into (most of) the bars/clubs in the first place.

No we'd have them on the streets instead which is much worse...

raising the drinking age to 21 WOULD NOT work becuase its not only under 21's that cause trouble. even if it was. then it would then push the problem up and those that couldnt get into clubs/pubs under 21 would then cause the same trouble at 21+

keep things the way they are, just be more strict at the bars with who is served in what condition and have more harsh punishments for the idiots that go around starting fights

As has been said binge drinking isn't the cause of our problems, it's the effect of our real problems. Basicaly in England for numerous reasons life's been devalued to such an extent people are on a constant downward spiral. One of the ways this manifests itself is in the drink-fueled degeneration round our cities at night.

Changing the laws or the price will have zero effect. In fact raising the price may encourage people to move towards other drugs instead.

For 30+ years social engineers/politicans/media have been constantly eroding the backbone of our communities and now we are reeping the rewards of there actions.

Quite. The problem is that it's just easier to start banning things, ruining it for the ones who can show a bit of restraint and responsibility for their own actions.

Don't think they'll ban or limit the sales of alcohol. The drinks lobby in the UK is extremely powerful and generates a huge amount of tax revenue for the government.

Why do you think that?

Because the numbers of drunk 15-16 years olds on the streets at the moment are tiny compared to the number of drunk 18-21 year olds out pubbing/clubbing it.

If it is illegal to drink under the age of 21 then the under 21's will have to obtain illicit aclohol from somewhere, much the same as 16-18 year olds who can't get in pubs do now.

For what it's worth I'm not sure I agree with the drinking age being raised to 21, just commenting on what I think

cant see the age being raised to 21 doing much rly. Will just be a fair revolt about it, dont know if any political party would dare up it incase of the under 21s voting another party(would be a fair % turnout of age group if they had their drinking barred)
Personally I couldnt give a hoot since im 21 now, although itd be a shame to lose all those fit 18-21yr olds from the bars ;(
