Anyone know much about binoculars? im after a set for when im walking thhe dog on the beach so i can watch some of the ships. id like atleast X50 zoom? or could you get away with less also a compact pair would be better so i can put them in a pocket. would ebay be a good place to look or are they likely to be rubbish off there?

x50 zoom seems like a lot. My rifle scope and binos are 10x and I struggle to get a steady view through them freehand. Is x50 pretty standard?

I'd say just go for something about 10x with a nice big objective lens, 40-50mm.
