Somewhat related story.
There is a shop called The Natural World in Trentham Shopping Village which sells some telescopes and stuff. They have literally hundreds of pairs of National Geographic 36-108*70 binocs, piled up on the floor and stacked around he shelf tops.
Now all the reviews I've seen on the interwebs basically say they are a bit rubbish, but I thought I'd have a look through when I went in about 6 months ago. They were out on a shelf like they normally are so I picked them up, pulled the caps off, had a look through and indeed it was like looking through two biro tubes.
As soon as I got them to my eyes, however, the guy running the tills pounced on me, said 'Can I help you with anything sir?' whilst simultaneously pulling them out of my hands, putting the caps back on and replacing them on the shelf. Hmmm....
I went in again last week, and lo and behold there was a pair mounted on a tripod with the telescopes. I'll have another look I thought, I might have been mistaken. Same guy on the tills so I waited until he was dealing with someone else and lifted the tripod out, took the caps off and TAPE ON THE EYEPIECES!!!
In that instant he's aound the till like a shot. 'Can I help you with that sir?' while pulling the tripod out of my hand and shoving it back into the display.
They REALLY don't want you looking through these things.
