Bionic eyes, anyone?

these could come in handy! i could see like i had binoculars glued to my face, i could hook a set up to my xbox 360 and go blow some terrorists up and think im in iraq, hey maybe even porn could be in 1st person (be awkward not knowing whats in the room thou as you do it) Movies could be watched not through a tv but through the lenses and hey maybe i wont even need a mouse to navigate round the computer interface! i want some!

I always think it's a bit odd that we can't 'zoom' on an image mentally, like a digital zoom.

Would be quite a useful skill, I don't see why there would be any physical limitation either.

Maybe if you wore glasses which made everything smaller your eyesight would adapt (like the upside down ones), so when you took them off everything would look bigger.

/end random musings

Ideally, installing or removing the bionic eye would be as easy as popping a contact lens in or out, and once installed the wearer would barely know the gadget was there, Parviz said.

last time I tried contact lenses I was there for 3 hours getting them in and 4 hours getting them out. I beg to differ.

Awesome.

Have a laser sight in guns that is working on a frequency that humans can't see, but this gizmo can. No-one would notice the telltale little red dot before you fire.

Or have I been watching the wrong sorts of films? ;)

well everything displayed would be done in red atm as they only have 1 light in 1 colour on it and they havent got that working at the moment

and testing on a rabit for 20 minutes is by no means a reason to say they dont cause harm - people would be wearing these for days at a time and how do you clean them??

woo, this is exactly what I suggested in another thread. I think people read my posts after all :p

Now all it needs is an in-built nano-radio (as have been created) to enable wireless connection to other lenses

Wow... I think you're expecting too much from the prototype, its pretty much a feasibility stage of testing.

I'd expect you clean them like any other contact lens, since they sit on your eye anyway. And people who dont take them out when they sleep or they get irritating are plain stupid and deserve the pain.

Cool, how can they have that but only a electronic eye thet lets you see in black & white?? Think people get mad over loosing contact now, you have no idea. Honey.....I lost a bionic lense.....

They've not even tested it switched on: they have put in rabbit's eye and they can wear them "comfortably" for awhile... but they've not flipped the switch on yet.

I can see the Rabbit tripping when the scientist finally press the ON button...
