Installed a 5770 onto a p5ne sli board and found out that to resolve slow boot issues it looks like i need to update the bios.

I'm pretty sure i know how to do it all successfully using ez flash and a usb stick.

One problem though is that it isn't my comp, and i'm worried that if i make a mistake i will kill something.

Should i risk it? Or is there a good chance something will go wrong?

not much you can make a mistake with, although killing the bios will kill the board, flash memory can be written to ~ 1,000,000 so only corrupt data can really mess it up. If the usb is working then you shouldn't have any problems.

Just make sure you know how to clear the boards cosmos if you're worried.

Use Ez-flash (Alt+F2 on bootup) (thanks to Geek for correcting me :) ) to flash the bios from a usb stick. Do not under any circumstances use the Asus windows bios flash software or you will most likely end up with a dead board.

Should i make a backup copy of the original bios? Also this wont require me to install windows again will it?

Also the usb stick i have says its formatted to the FAT format, it doesn't say fat 32 does this matter?

I'm interested in doing this myself, as I have suspicions the manufacturer (MESH) who produced the PC I am on now restricted my BIOS options (although I could be wrong). What do I actually need to do on the memory stick - just format it and place the new bios file there? Running on an ASUS P5L-VM 1394 btw.
