has anyone actually flashed this card PowerColor ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB
to PE version i have found the saphire bios update but is this the same for this card , and which tool is easiest to use to flash it . i have been told that the number of mosfets comes into it , this card has 6 of them

To be honest i've just used CCC autodetect to overclock mine and im getting near PE speeds from that without the flash. Around 689/798. Im pretty sure that one of the conditions for flashing with the PE bios in that you have 6 mosfets, so you should be ok as far as that goes. You may be better placed to clock using software initially.

Hi , i am at the top of the scale with ccc also and core temp is 36 degrees so i was hoping to go a bit higher

well i for one am considering the bios flash for my card too, how do I tell the ammount of mosfets? also is it easy enough to flash back to the original bios if the card doesnt work with it?

i haven't flashed a graphics card before so i dont know about flashing back , the mosfets are little black squares at the rear os the card by the long heat sink about 7mm square so Tom told me

there should be 6 mosfets for the pe bios to work properly, been running mine with the pe bios now for 4-5 weeks, was using the stock cooler and it was fine with that but ive just got a maze 4 gpu block now so im all nice and cool. 30idle and 38load to be precise.

must say, make sure you bacup your old bios before you flash, by pressing the save button.

make sure you downclock the card to 500core 500mem before the flash to stop any complications.( use atitool or overclocker )

and make sure you tick the force box to force flash the new bios.

hope this helps.

ps im now getting 10,056 in 3d05 so its well worth doing.im also not held responsible if anything goes wrong.

cheers

ok cool man, thanks but is there any links to the software and also the instructions?
I'm gonna giove this a try to see how it goes, if I dont like it then il change back to the normal bios

i did it without a floppy no problem

Just using the Ati Flash utility make sure you load the bios and click force and it should work fine!

Ok, I just flashed my powercolor x1800xt 512 with the pe bios. It seems to run fine, and the temp is at around 75c on load(while playing battlefield 2). With the fan on auto, on 100% it's under 55c. But I'm worried about the high Vcore at 1.48V. How is the sapphire x1800xt pe? Is it exactly the same card, so it should be perfectly safe?

well it should be the same card provided you have the 6 mosfet resisitors on the card!

When everyone says this voids your warranty really when you think about it how can the manufacturer tell really?

Yeah, I have 6 mosfets(what are the for really, provide power?). I believe most shops just tests the card, and if it doesn't work, they'll send you a new one.

klkl cos if it does mess up then i would assume they wont replace it because they cant now :P haha! no more of my cards on the site!

Anyways they are resisitors which helps against the higher voltage load on your card so you need the 6! (at least thats what i believe)

couldnt get it to work , followed the link and click on the ati winflash icon and i just get a mozaic type screen then i have to reboot to get rid of it :(

i bet you didnt downclock the card to 500/500 did you ? and youve got to tick the force box 2. good luck

That's what I did, and it worked like a charm :) . Anyway, I just ran 3dmark 05, and I got 9541 points with my x2 [email protected]. Is that a good score? It seems very nice to me. What do you guys get? And post your cpus as well please ;)
