Hey

Im getting a friends comp tomorrow whos been having problems, he got a new HDD installed because the old one died, and recently he said the sytem hangs real hard and he has to reboot, it was a W32 time something or other, ( i wont know until i get the system )

But he said that now when he reboots it, it comes up detecting IDE drivers, there are no IDE drives connected to the fasttrak controller bios not installed, ( but like i said i wont know until i get the system )

I cant see this being good, so if the bios isnt installed, can i download the bios and flash it in and will it work, or it the MB screwed, and or can i get a new bios chip from it.

The board to my memory is a Asus P4P800

I think fastrak is a promise controller card - has he got his hard drives connected by one of these? I have had similar problems in the past with these. Are the hard drives detected in bios?

Could be jumper on new hard drive not set correctly

Update

I cant even get the system to post, i changed out the PSU to a better one, but still nothing, the CPU fan and the fan at the back of the case power on, but it will not post at all, there is no other power at all, HDD's dont even spin up, do you think this board it dead or what,

The GFX card does seem to get hot though but the fans do not power on on the board itself, so i dont know if the heat is coming from the CPU, NB or straight out the top of the GFX card itself,

Do you think reseting the Cmos would work, jumper and battery reset, or is there something i have missed completely, this system ran great until just recently when my friend told me it just started to hang on him.....
