Hi all,

I hope someone can help me. I have an ASUS P5B Deluxe AP/WiFi board and I was having problems with Vista and crashes in general. Downloaded the latest BIOS and used the ASUS Update util to flash the BIOS, asked me to restart. Clicked yes, system just sits there won't POST.

Any ideas?

All the best
Matt...

Thanks for the response. I wasn't sure what to try, didn't want to make anything worse.

I'll give that a try and see if that fixes it.

Is a failed upgrade (for whatever reason) fairly terminal on this type of kit? I've updated loads of Dell and HP firmware on servers never had a problem like this.

If I have to replace the board what would be a good alternative? I have 4gbytes ram, need raid, and dual core 2.4ghz processor, I am planning to run Win XP 64bit SP2.

I mate

i had the exact same problem ( two days ago)
after update for last oficial bios 11.01( i think)with asus update tool, when restarting nothing showns in the monitor

I have Ballistix PC2 5300 ( and it was at 2.25Vdimm when I did the bios update)

I have some 512MB PC2 6400( generic) who boots at 1.8V
so i take off te Ballistix, put in the generic DDR2 ram and then the sistem boots :)

after that I enter in the bios, make some changes ( Vdimm at 2.25V again) restart the pc, then power-off, then I put the Ballistix again and now the pC is ok :)

hope that helps you

Thanks but I don't have anything else to put in the Geil PC2-6400 ram was working fine before (at default voltage and at 2.1V)

I was looking forward to getting some new games and trying out the BFG 8800GTX this weekend. If I could get the thing stable enough to play UT2004 for more than 5 minutes before BSOD.

I've only had this machine running for a week out of the last few months due to problems (first motherboard was dud) and now this. Feeling pretty sick of it now having spent the best part of £2,500 on it and still won't work. Shame I can't send the whole thing back and get everything tested, but as it was bought as components that can't be done.

I thought by getting the best I could get at the time, taking advice from OCUK on what was best (value for performance) that I would avoid these sort of problems.

Just tried setting the jumper on the motherboard to reset the CMOS but no joy, take battery out, etc. Still won't even POST.

yep lot´s of money for a pc who does not work
if it was me , i went sick too :)

try this:

take the power cable off the pc,take the battery of for five min. , and take the ram off
then, try with just one stick of the ram

sometimes strange things happens with that crazy machines lol

I'll give that a try tomorrow. As the battery is hidden under the BFG8800 it is a pain to keep removing it, making sure that I connect the wrist band to prevent static damage. Got a dent in my wrist from wearing it :(

Thanks for your help.
