BIOS update

So, I need to upgrade the BIOS in my Gigabyte GA-x48-DS5 and this is the first machine where I don't have a floppy drive avaliable to boot from. What's the quickest way to boot into DOS to run the flash program?

Run it directly from the motherboard, use a USB stick?

Don't need a bootable USB. Use the Q-Flash built into the motherboard BIOS and then just access the new BIOS file on the USB.

Use Q-Flash, just put the BIN file on the USB stick.

Enter Q-Flash by either pressing <End> key during the POST or pressing the <F8> key in BIOS setup menu. May be different for your board.

yip - stick it on a fat formatted USB stick, go into BIOS, press F8 and follow the instructions

Yeah, the exe will extract the files. Just put the Bin file on the USB stick and your on your way.

I thought that was an ASUS term?

Asus use EZ Flash.

All sorted. I haven't done a BIOS upgrade in so long. Q-flash worked fine, except for killing my boot sector. Fixboot sorted that though
