Bioshock 2 System Requirements Released! (SecuROM act limit: 15)

Whats sucks most about this is all the layers of DRM. All they needed to do was only use SSA to link the game serial number to your gamertag & that's it your done as SSA does not have any limits its infinity & beyond.

GFWL you can even create an offline profile on any GFWL title & still save & have it hidden in the background doing nothing if you so wish.

What 2K have done here is apply a stupid DRM strategy:

1: Disc check will get bypassed on day 1. Securom even release patches to bypass this on their website but never advertise them you have to look deep but there freely & legally available. They did it for GTA4 & many other big PC games so people with unsupported DVD drives could still play the game.

I got the GTA4 one that was released by Securom, but what other ones are out there do you know? It'd be nice to be able to take more disks out of the disk folder I will be carrying with me when I move next week (moving out of parents', have stored a load of games in a box.

I've posted on that 2K thread too, but they seem obstinate in not wanting to listen to their "community".

Wait, hold on a second. Securom happily release patches to remove their own method of copy protection if the game is big enough? What the hell is the point in using securom then?

Well... no. What were you expecting? The lastest studies have shown your gamerscore is proportional to the size of your penis. Its hardly unlikely that if the game were run in offline mode and continued to allow achievements that people would cheat/unlock/bypass or whatever else they do to get all achievements for a game without it being verified correctly by the master server (i'm talking out my arse, i know). Its the same thing Steam does.

Hehe.

As it happens, steam does let you play the games offline, and sync up when you go back offline. I don't know, but I assume achievements work fine when gained this way.

And the fact it still uses the Unreal Engine 2.5 which is old. But I rather have that than my computer struggle to run the game as if its using the CryEngine 2 engine.

It runs on the unreal 3 engine , which is fine unless it uses deferred lightning and only dx9 ( can't force AA with deferred lightning unless they also make a dx10 version), not an old engine in my eyes.
think i'll just get it on the 360, so not worth the hassle.
I wouldn't bother with that, rubbish 720p graphics with no aa ( correct me if I'm wrong), rubbish controls and cd/dvd hassle.

Why not buy a retail copy and crack it?
Easiest and best way, no disadvantages of the console, and no hassle with ****ty DRM, or stupid old fashioned optical media ( after install).

I think I'll wait till it's a 5-10€ steam weekend deal like I did with Bioshock the original, I never really had trouble with activating and if I will, I'll just re-download a game from naughty sites and play it like that.
I mean, if the DRM gives me any **** I just tend to crack the game instead, far less hassle while still paying to support the game.

Save files yes, assuming the game uses Steamcloud. But it only saves achievements in real time. If you aren't online, you don't get it.

Strife, the point is, everyone hates SecuROM, it serves no purpose but to restrict legitimate buyers and just has a reputation of screwing up systems. If its only been used as a disc check and the company releases stuff that can override it... why even bother.

They just don't get it do they...

Besides, most people don't want GFWL to be involved in the pc version either :p

I quite like the concept of GFWL but it just poorly implemented (in my opinion). Linking to my xbox gamertag is nice but if my PC has awakened from hibernation state pressing home in game will likely hang on 'signing in' and I have to reboot to be able to sign in. Bah

lol you can't save the game without logging into GFWL

ffs GFWL is the most useless and annpoyignthing ever :/

Not being able to save unless signed in is hardly a problem as you just make an off-line profile.

****ing useless piece of annoying **** that only ****es off legitimate owners.

Games for Windows Live is the most ****ing useless program i have ever been forced to used, and after having used some very un-user friendly engineering programs over the course of my degree that is quite a statement.

A few days ago i thought i'd give Red Faction: Guerilla a try since i got it over xmas. So i launch it, fine, click new game: "Sign into LIVE to save or create a new profile" so i log in with my current account. "Windows Live is updating" It finishes, i have to restart the game, i then have to enter my details AGAIN because the stupid ****ing system forgot i entered them 5 minutes beforehand and also clicked 'remember and login'. So it asks me to apply ANOTHER update, 5 minutes later, i'm made to restart RF and put my details in AGAIN then guess what? It updates... AGAIN. Finally on the 3rd time of putting my details back in i'm actually allowed to play the game.

The system is so badly implemented its ridiculous. My personal favourite was the G-Man question. "Do you wish to apply the update? If you decline you will be signed out of LIVE" JUST DO IT AND STOP WASTING MY TIME! At least G-Man decided in HL2 to not bother giving you the illusion of choice.

I didn't say it was, i'm getting it because of the activation limit, it's part of why i have an Xbox 360, for games that are badly ported and for limits like this.

What limits? Use a crack... It's a singleplayer game, a cracked version will be superior in every single way: No activation, no cd checks, none of that rubbish.

Theres no securom install limit for christs sake, stop talking about it!

It's not just a disk check, the game also connects with SecuROM servers to check date and also download the game executable - just like the first game. The first game requires you to type your serial number in for what's now unlimited installs, but BS2 still uses the same server technology for the other checks. It's no better.

And there may be no SecuROM install limit now, but there is a Games for Windows Live one.

So BS1 = unlimited installs, BS2 = 15.

Yay.
