BioShock Achievements!

Weird...

I'll be buying Bioshock regardless, but sometimes the achievements sway me. Games with achievements of "get 1000 kills in multiplayer mode" I don't like. So when i'm stuck for a game to buy and i'm after something to see me through until the next big release, i'll sway towards games where most of the achievements come through just playing the single player element, like Tomb Raider for example which I bought not long ago.

Did I say that? The achievements just guaranteed the fact that this games going to be awsome. I hope one of the secret ones will be something to do with killing Big Daddy's. I personally reckon the 100pt on might be for killing a big daddy as according to the preview video's its difficult.

How so?

How do a bunch of utterly irrelevant numbers that contribute nothing towards the actual game in any way relate to how good it'll be?

As daft as it sounds, sometimes (albeit rarely) they can, when it asks you to do something completely random or out there.

An example would be individual player achievements in NBA2K7, such as score 81 points with Kobe Bryant. I found those a real hoot.

But in the general sense for story driven games, a good game is a good game regardless of what you are asked to do.

I wonder if I can say anything tonight without being contradicted? I'm not sure how you rate them as "irrelevant". They were put in there for a reason. They contribute because they act as something else to work for and are proof that you have achieved something in the game which can be compared with friends and other players. They make you want to do extra whilst playing the game - I don't see a problem with that myself.

I wouldnt get too excited, I think some of the hidden ones are ridiculously hard, like complete the entire game with a wrench and never ever set off a security camera.
