I am so hacked off right now.

Why does the bioshock demo need a rootkit to avoid copyright infringement. It is a just a demo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And i cannot remove it atm :( vista 64bit does not seem to allow Microsofts RootkitRevealer v1.71 to run.

so whats the problem?

Well the bioshock demo installs a rootkit program that will scan my computer and registry for whatever it wants. This is a DEMO. DEMOS do not need any copyright protection at all.

They claim the rootkit is for activation purposes when you buy the game. Which is why i am totally hacked off why does a demo need activation?!?

ok so it not a rootkit by definition, but it still begs the question, why does a Demo need a program to activate it. And also i have no way of uninstalling this authentication secuROM program where i can uninstall bioshock (which i have done)

I care about it! I installed a demo of a game that after playing I didn't really like. Now because of that, I uninstalled the demo and it's left spyware/rootkit or whatever you want to call it embedded in my PC even though I have no intention of buying the full game.

ditto, i wouldnt care so much if i had the game, but i dont have the game, or the demo but i still have the protection software on my PC. which is HIDDEN from view. Also this hidden folder could be exploited by viruses malware and such I believe

edit// actually i would care even if i did have the game, fair enough u need copyright protection but theres no need to use this kind of aggressive DRM.

well i have contacted SECURrom using [email protected].

I requested politely that they give me step by step instrutions to remove their software from my PC.

They replied back today with an uninstaller 4.13mb. Which i placed into C: and ran the uninstaller in Dos prompt. Their instructions were slightly wrong (it seems they may have several versions of their own uninstaller) but i figured it out.

edit// I would like to point out i dont mind having any protection software in a windows Visable folder, so that it cannot be stealth used by viruses and malware to attack my machine. But they way they did it and how it compromised my machine was in my mind out of order and unethical.
