Bioshock hands-on preview

iv never played system shock either so not sure what is to be expected. at most i guess it could have storytelling aspects like half life and cannon fodder like serious sam.

I think it's worth playing System Shock 2 through (admittedly, as an old game it can be a little hard to get into compared to the 'pick up and play' of some more modern games, but it's worth it) and you'll get a good feel for what a lot of us are expecting from this game and why we're so excited about it.

Creepier than HL2, better story, a few rpg elements, more interesting combat and a decently fast pace to the combat... That's what we want.

gonna be hard to play systemshock 2, just took a look at the screenshots and the gfx look awful. guess its too old for me to go back to, like the ps2 i have which i don;t touch anymore.

why would they need to port rainbow 6 vegas to the pc if as you say the unreal engine 3 is built up for the pc? something is deffo not right there.

It is built for the PC, but when a game is developed and optimised for a console and ported across without any work on optimising it for PC it turns out like Vegas.

Read through the preview earlier, the AI sounds fantablooastic.

Interesting that the PC version is faster paced though, but that could change in final release like they say.

Sounds like the faster play on the PC will affect the gameplay though. The article mentioned just running past opponents rather than having to take them down. I really hope they optimise it for the PC when it's released...

I really can't wait to get my hands on this game, though it is abit of a downer that the PC version is considerably easier. I really hope they resolve this issue before release. I really don't want to have to get this for 360.

I really want to make a Jurassic Park mod with it, that'd be the dogs danglies.

I'd pay money for such a mod!

Dinosaurs > Aliens
Dinosaurs > Zombies
Dinosaurs = Nazis
Undead Martian Dinosaurs in 1930s Europe ***.

Try out the graphics upgrade mods?

Though if you're that much of a graphics h0 then I'm not too bothered about your opinion on games anyhow, sorry :/

tbh i think it looks to much like cartoon style gfx, maybe thats just my eyes

I aggree to an extent. Certainly not really true cartoon style, but the colours seem very vibrant, more so than they would in reality.

i think it adds to the charm of this game, i like it and i seriously want this game now. Woot! ive just found that I can get it for £22 :D

It's part of the gaudy, art-deco style. It's meant to have a theme of a bright, gaudy and almost garish cityscape gone wrong and starting to decay...

Think of some of the things you see in Fallout. It's not really the same, but there are similarities.

in one of the videos they showed couple of bulets hit the glass at the top and no cracks and no water came through, no real physics in this game. just seems to be too consoley to me.

Yeah, if I was building an underwater city, I'd make sure that a single gunshot could drown the whole thing :p

its a damn good game though. could be that it actually is too much for the pc to handle. the gfx are very good indeed, bar the crap textures.

Sometimes I wonder if you actually ever engage your brain before posting.:(

Looking as awesome as ever. Can't wait.

It will run just fine. Cyber-Mav... ermmm... what... you can't be serious?
R6:Vegas -> Ubisoft -> Does anything more need to be said?

I too am fond of the vibrant exaggerated colours and it does indeed give the game a signiture look.

To straighten a few things out, Unreal Engine 3 was not just designed for use just on the PC, it's a multi platform engine. Rainbow 6 Vegas was produced as an Xbox 360 title and then ported over to a PC version hence the poor performance.

Also, the textures in Bioshock certainly are not crap. Many have what appears to be bump or parallax mapped surfaces which can catch specular highlights giving the texture depth and making it look very realistic.

PC hardware is more than capable of running this game smoothly.
