Just completed Bioshock 1.

I have to say I really didn't enjoy it. I like the overall idea and the setting, but the implementation was very lacking.

I found the combat highly repetitive. None of the weapons were particularly fun to use, and it was easy to run out of ammo. a lot of the enemies you faced are just annoying rather than fun to fight.

The hacking mini game also became highly boring very rapidly.

By about half way through the game was becoming a real drag. But I decided to persevere and get it completed. Partly to justify to myself the massive number of games on my steam account! I certainly would never be interested in playing the sequel, as I have no wish to ever step foot in Rapture again.

hehe, yeaa finished it and havent played it since tbh. Comparing it to its older brother System Shock 2, it fell so far short in all but graphical quality (but then the bar's not exactly high in that category :p).

I do have to say the beginning's really well done though. Loved the swimming and entry to rapture :D Just went a bit downhill as the game went on.

Despite the fact that it didnt exactly meet expectations, I did actually enjoy playing Bioshock in general, havent looked at the second one yet so couldnt give you an idea of how it compares :)

Have to agree, I hated the music and general atmosphere. It all seemed depressing and no fun at all. The tape recording were interesting if you found them.

The enemies were irritating and no fun, I agree.

I just can't see what all the hype is about this game. I would love to love it though.

Yeah im kinda the same. I liked the gfx and the ideas but it just got dull real fast. I didnt like the lack of ammo and packs for the hand weapons and thought the enemies were dull.

If the hand things didnt require recharging i might have liked it more and if their were more things to do.

I admit i didnt play for too long i think best i got was the projector room.

Would have liked to see the story tho it sounded cool.

I found the story predictable, the graphics are nice, but I wasnt like OMFG Crysis or the woooah of Assassins Creed with them, they were just nice.

The gameplay was samey, pretty much go into a room and the door shuts, fight some bad guys then leave and never return or walk through again once more to go to that lift to the next level. I am old enough to have played this type of scenario countless times on games in the past and to be honest I expect more from my games now days.

The moral choice was extremely lame as well and didnt move the story on, in fact its sole purpose is just try to make you play the game again.
Now after all that I wouldn't say it was a bad game, but amazing no, just the latest graphical game and these get all the attention.

See Call of Duty, Crysis, Farcry, Doom, Half Life 2, Stalker, Quake, FEAR, HALO, Duke Nukem to name just a few.

i found it a bit dull, i only bought it because reivews called it an rpg so i was expecting to actually be able to talk to people rather than dull generic enemies in a corridor shooter.

I LOVED the plot and the characterisation, but didn't think much of the actual playing elements. Like you say, the weapons were...meh.

Can't really dispute your main complaints, most of what you mentioned are the generally recognised weak points of the game.

I'd tend to agree with a few as well, but still enjoyed the game regardless. I bought it again in one of the Steam deals, not sure I'll ever end up going through it again though.

I remember playing the demo, and immediately i was thrown back with the style of the game which led me to uninstall it. I kept going back to the demo on numerous occasions, but eventually i managed to come round to giving it a proper go and i thoroughly enjoyed the game, except for the hacking element and the fact there were more enemies in the room i just cleared out.

The story wasn't predictable in my eyes, i was pretty surprised by the twist tbh.

First game, yeah it was ok (It can take a lot for me to loose interest in a game), however the second I thought was much improved, and puts a different spin on Rapture than the first

I finished the first game, but have only got about a quarter of the way through the second. I really enjoyed the first game, but the one thing that really irritated me was the re-spawning enemies if you go back to an area/room you've previously cleared. I did enjoy the hacking miniigame on the first one to be honest, it gave me a welcome relief from the action for a few seconds. Atmosphere was great also.

Overall I really enjoyed it, but not liking the second one as much for some reason.
