bioshock offline help!

hey guys and gals, been a while since ive ben on, internet went down, has been for over a week now, so i bought a laptop in light of having somw wireless love, and odly enough, its faster than my adsl connection lol.

anyway, i bought bioshock, and realised it has online activation, so, ive installed it onto a ext hdd, and activated, will i be abe to copy it over to one of my rapters and play lik normal on my main rig without the internet on vista?

btw, just got all he hotfixes and beta vista divers, looking foward to the dx10 sli boost that it apprently gives, which is one of 5 hotfixes ive got hold of.

well, let us know :D im just downloading the vista iso for creative xfi atm, so wont be trying anything just yet.

You should be OK. To start they only let you activate the game on 2 PCs simultaneously but after a lot of complaints they've upped that to 5 from what I've read. So you should be good to install onto your Vista rig and activate on that one too. I doubt just copying from the ext hard drive would work, but as they allow up to 5 installations there shouldn't by any need to worry.

[edit]I just realised you won't have Internet on the vista PC, but I think you can activate through other means, I can't remember the other options, but check it out when you install on vista.

im prayin that it worksm cos not having internet on my main rig has cippled it lol, ive complted most of my single player games now

just made a counjuration/restoration mage in oblivion, making it impossible for me to die lol, summon and if anything even touches me, life leech just gains back my health and does a fai amount of damage lol.

im gonna go try the install now, ill let you know how it goes.

I love Oblivion :) I think I played as a stealthy back stabber.

With the off line activation I think you have to email them a challenge code, and wait for them to email you back another code that you can enter. Can't you plug your PC into your laptop and use it as a gateway to the Internet?
 
yeah can you not wire the laptop up to the pc and bridge the wired + wireless connections and get net access that way?

tried, but just didnt work, well, i couldnt get it to work, ive just emailed there support, guess ill have to wait for them to reply... realy sucks :(

It should be a matter of setting up a home network through network connections on your laptop. You just select the device you're connected to the internet through and then the device you're connected to the home network through.
 
I think if you plug the PC straight into the laptop a normal patch cable wouldn't work, you'd need a .. err can't remember the name now, it's a normal network cable but the wires are crossed over or something. Otherwise if you have a network hub u should be able to plug the laptop and PC into that and do it that way. I could be wrong of course :)

Yep its called an rj45 crossover ethernet cable. Got one when system linking mine and my m8s 360's
 
dont have a patch cable (rj45) only cross over's... probably why it wouldnt work, still no reply, and i think it might have not got sent through, i emailed to mailto:support@... blablah cant remember the rest, but i think putting thr mailto part might have stopped it.

ok, patch cable found, no matter what i do, it simply wont do anything, just says limited or no connectivity.... ive set everything up fine, just doesnt want to do it.

no email as well, this is stupid

ok, got a cable, still no prevail, limited connection, so i cant be bothered.

still no reply. looks like i might have to wait for bt to get there butt in gear and get my line backup.

Can you proxy the activation? If so get the network working (probably by manually assigning ip's to the lappy and then the pc) and install some simple proxy server software on the lappy and get the pc to use that. Much easier than bridging the two connections etc!
 
i could, but i simply wouldnt know where to start, that area is unfortunatly where my IT skills lack, ill read through my Network+ and A+ book tomorrow about it, se if i can learn what i dont know :P

but as for now, if i havnt got an email by tomorrow lunchtime (still got a hangover from last night, so im going to sleep like a log) ill give em a call.

BUT, back to the rest of GoldenEye on channel 3 :D
