BIOSTAR Boards

Installed my forst Biostar Board I45 recently and acheived an easy overclock to my E8400. Great layout (other than the limited 3 pin fan headers) and lots of positive reviews so if you are considering the I45 I can't see how you could be disappointed unless you can't get one.

yea was looking at getting a Biostar TPower I45 Intel P45 just that it seems a nice layout and very good price along with a e8400 and 4850 IceQ 4GB OCZ ddr2 6400. What overclock have you managed?? Be my first time overclocking so is it a good board to start with??

If i dont go for that option will be going for a cheap build e2200 then upgrade late next year when head off to uni.

The tpower I45 has a very easy to use bios and is super stable but some things you should be aware of.

The cpu voltage can only be adjusted in .05 increments as in 1.32/1.37/1.42 and also don't hold your breath for bios updates.. i love it though and will be going for the x58 version when i go i7.

I dont think i will be doing any major overclocks at first with the Processor so i dont think the volts is a massive problem. What will be the disadvatage of bios updates??

Would you reccomend it get a £350 pc now e2200, cheap board, 4850 then upgrade to a better rig in say year and half

OR save till march and go for an e8400 with a p45 motherboard, 4850 etc and upgrade in future?

or get a decent mobo with e2200 then upgrade the processor what not next year

what set up have you got now? Are there any parts from your current set up you could salvage? Why are you wanting to upgrade?

Atm

amd 3700
Some ddr msi mother board
Nvidia 6200 TC
1 GB ddr

been offered £150-£200 which i think is very very good all i have to do i put all data of there old pc onto mean :).

Atm i have a 600w OCZ gameXstream psu and OCZ 1GB ddr 2 6400 ram had for a while

As you can see from spec you can imagine what games are like BF2 is just playable. Upgrade just for general use and games especially (left 4 dead, and flight sim x). Be my first build

If you can stretch to £400 you can get a pretty decent set up now, i.e P43 board, E8500 or if you want to trim E7400, 4850, 4 gig 6400 RAM, that would see you right no problem

if i wait till late march that just after my b'day i think i will have an easy budget it of £550 so thinking that will buy me a very nice computer.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB) - Retail £139.99
(
HIS ATI Radeon HD 4850 IceQ 4 Turbo 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (H485QT512P)
(£142.59)
Biostar TPower I45 Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
(£114.99)
NZXT Alpha Classic Series Silent Midi-Tower Case (No PSU) N
(£49.44)
Samsung SpinPoint F1 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD322HJ)
(£39.09)
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK
(£22.99)
Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940
(£31.04)

£562.00 + windows vista (what will i need i have xp)

But i really wont to be getting something that will let allow me to play games atm and be a good step up but i can upgrade later date?? If i was still abel to get good performance but £100-£150 less owuld be great

Id get 4 gig of RAM rather than 2, and get it in 2x2 gig sticks, you could save money with a cheaper cooler and cheaper gfx if you wanted to, Id look at 64 bit vista if I were you, 32 can only make use of 3.5gig of RAM, and actually costs £2 more???, though if you do stick with 32 bit its still worth getting 4 gig of RAM, 3.5 is more than 2, and vista will be slow with 2 gig.

Hi, I got to my target of 3.8Ghz very easily as per this screenshot.

If you have a limited budget and have a plan to overclock, try to buy a good board and cut back elsewhere. By getting a cheap board you can only save £50 ish.
It is difficult to say how easy clocking will be for a first timer, certainly there are more forum overclocking threads for Asus P5Q deluxe so you may want to do some research before you choose.
If you are buying Socket 775 get this board or the P5Q deluxe and just get the best you can with the rest of your cash although your original spec is perfect for gaming on anything up to a 22inch LCD if you can afford it.

currently got a 19". Will upgrade my monitor but that will be nearer the end of this year. So i was wanting to get a good mobo that when new teach comes out i can easily just upgrade it epesically g.c. I ve already got 2 x 1 gb memory sticks unused so i either get 2 x 2 GB then run 6gb on vista 64 (defiantly go for).

Only games most likely play are bf2 (that genres COD5), and flight sim be on a 19"

Well New Tech Intel-wise is i7 so there is no upgrade path from socket 775 boards. Sadly with i7 thats a huge lump of your budget just for Motherboard let alone the CPU.

Yea that is definately out of the question :). But say I did get a x50 mobo and e2200 would this mobo still be allow me to upgrade to new tech say year time or is this a waste money? Other option is a rig similar to your sig or build a £300 similar to shaffas build thead??
By the way thanks for oc pics

Edit it will be more gc I will want to update

X58 chipset boards are for Intel i7 processors so there is no option to use an e2200 initially and upgrade later.
With your £550 budget you will build a nice C2D PC but it won't be future proof.

Hmmmmmm but will it last me a leat a few years being able to play games. You know if say new graphic cards came out would thye work in a p45 board?? I think a E8400/500 or E7400 is looking like the best option atm. What would you spec for a £400 and £550 spec?

I think your earlier post had some good choices in it.
ATI 4850 is still a great card, you could always save some cash for now on your CPU and get an E5200, I would get 4GB RAM if you are playing games the Ballistix Tracer Red looks nice for £51. Get the best case you can afford, especially if you are going to overclock as cooling will become important (the new Antec 920 looks nice but may be too expensive).
Your OCZ PSU may be ok, you need to check that you have the right connectors and that the leads will be long enough. Maybe check the OCZ website and/or email them.

Thanks for your help :)

Yea i will do. But you can get extension leads etc and leads that plug into molex if i need the 8 pin and 6 pin for g.c

You know if i have Windows xp on my old pc, but have lost the disc but serial key is on the side pc what is the best/cheapest option for vista?

All ready have 2x 1 gb of OCZ ddr II PC2 6400 (5-5-5-12) Gold edition so would you recommend i get another 2x2GB of drrII 6400 (6GB) or just another 2GB?
