BIOSTAR Boards

Okay i will defiantly get 64bit Vista home premium i am getting that for £64 from another place they got a 25% sale on all Microsoft software :D.

If i were to get either the E7400, E8400, E5200 what you recommend?

Well i already have OCZ ram. I know that people have had problems with asus an ocz ram. Probably get either Biostar or Gigabyte

What Aftermarket cooler you recommend for an average overclock? (Blue lights in case)

The cPU all depends on how much you want to spend, if you can afford it go for the E8400, its the best of the 3, but if you're on a budget then come down accordingly, to whatever level you can afford.

Still really unsure if the extra cost is worth it for E8400. Do all 3 of them use same motherboard??

The Tuniq Tower you mentioned earler is highly rated, I personally like the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme or True Black but you will need to buy a fan. For a modest overclock the Arctic Cooling freezer 7 pro is still a great cooler and would save money.

Yes they are all the same socket type, if you buy an old model board you should check that it can run the E8400 but it is unlikely you will have any trouble.
As to if it's worth it; that is so difficult to answer. For some games you need a fast processor and the E8400 is the fastest at stock, but plenty of people have had great results overclocking the E5200 and E7400.
Really the best advice has to be to buy the best you can afford, but you could get great satisfaction clocking a cheaper CPU and if so better value.

Hi

The only one I have built with is the Antec 300. A great case, although it seems to have gone up in price a little and it's not as easy to tidy your wiring as it is on some cases.
The Lian Li looks very nice and they are always great quality.
From what I have read the coolermaster will not be great for cooling if you do decide to experiment with overclocking

For around an extra £15 you can get 4GB of DDR2 as opposed to 2GB, XP 64bit will see all 4GB of ram so definitly worth the investment.

What cooler you using? if your on a budget maybe get the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

Sorry I meant vista 64 bit:). I already have 2gb 6400 ocz so be 4gb in total. Processor and board good choice??
I went for the 4870 as it's cheap ATM and will be upgrading to a bigger screen soon, that brought me over! Yea it an option looking at tuniq tower or noctua

Hi Lynchy

Mostly nice choices, the 4870 at the moment is great value and unless you are going over 22inch when you upgrade your monitor will be great for years I would think. Have a good think about the hard drive though, Storage gets used up quick these days and I would be looking to buy a 500GB at the moment.
As you know I have the motherboard and love it, but we come back to overclocking, it is a great board and good value as long as you plan to overclock. If you run stock or with a very mild overclock you could buy a cheaper board.
The E7200 looks like a good choice on your budget. Looking at the Overclocking results people have had I think I would have to consider an E5200 personally.
The cooler again comes down to overclocking, with a mild overclock or stock the Arctic freezer will be all you need (and some would say it is great for big overclocks too). But if you plan to overclock by 20% or more I would recommend a Thermalright ultra 120 Extreme/Black or Tuniq tower (the Tuniq is the best value here I feel). I have read plenty of stuff to make me believe the Noctua isn't great, although, plenty seem to rate it and as I have not used it I comment from experience but it wouldn't be on my short list.

At the end of the day, it is just advice. You'll be pleased if you buy as per your basket.

Good luck

What the real main difference between the e7200 and e5200??

Looking at the Western digital 500GB Caviar black / blue:D

Its really tempting to splash out on the e7400 or E8400 but I got too set a limit some where :).

Yea i will most like upgrade to a 22" / 24" but being that it will be over £50 i could possibly win another 4870 for free.

Yea i just want a board that is decent and will allow me to upgrade CPU and possibility of X fire. There only really £20-30 diffidence between P43 and P45. What Motherboard would you recommend if i did go for the lower one?

I think i am going to go for the tuniq tower i love the fan in the middle how it blue

Hi Lynchy

There are several differences, the main one being the front side bus. Intel list them as totally different Technology, E5200 Pentium Dual-Core and E7200 as Core 2 Duo see this comparison.
http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=60130,36895&familyID=1&culture=en-US
Saying that, they are both 45nm CPU's and both clock really well from what I have seen. Have a look at the E5200 thread here.
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17929621

If you are planning crossfire really the prices for P45 boards all get close to the Biostar so I think I would go with that then. If you dont intend to crossfire a great B Gade bargain can be had here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BG-107-AB&groupid=595&catid=689&subcat=
With an E5200 thats £125 for a board and CPU. Limited warranty I guess (Abit no longer make boards and it's B grade) and you can recieve a board only (no manuals or anything) but shows what can be done on a budget.

yea yea that is impressive but it is only my first build so i would rather have everything so there high chance everything works and if i do need help i can refer to the manuals. Thanks for the heads up it is very tempting that:D £125:eek: but i guess its 'old' tech.

Looking at the E8400 and trying to see if its worth money in long run.

Just looked at that Thread does that mean it will need better then 800Mhz ram to reach 3.6ghz??

Btw you have been a real help Luffy thanks:)

No your RAM will be fine Lynchy.
The CPU is a difficult call and the final decision is down to you.
What is the cost of the two you are considering?

If you are not going to overclock, the E8400 comes stock at 3Ghz which is nice. There is an automatic overclock feature on the Biostar I45 that will then take that to 3.25Ghz I think just by turning it on.
