Hi all, well a bird has crapped on my new car and damaged the paint.

I've contacted one mobile paint guy, and he's said it'll need to go into a spray shop... What do you all think? Does it need to be re sprayed?

try washing it first with some decent car shampoo/cleaner thing, using a mitt (not sponge) if not , maybe try some polish, if not some red T-Cut colour fast might do the trick (use this as a polish)

It doesn't seem to have taken any paint off, just left a texture on the surface.

I had a go with autoglym srp, but it made no difference, guessing it's because it isn't a cutting polish

It has eaten into the clear coat.
A bird capped one mine a day after having bonnet painted
I washed it off within hours but damage was done.

Only thing you can do now is try and use cutting compound on it. If that fails then will need sanding and Polish or repainting.

The weak as paint they use nowadays takes weeks to cure hard enough to handle bird poo.

If it's a new car, take back to dealer... moan like he'll that their paint can't even handle bird poo.

I used to leave a bit on insect remover on for a few seconds and then just wipe it away. Worth a go if you have some sitting around.

I keep a few IPA wipes in my glove box to remove bird muck if I'm away from home and find some on my paintwork. Started to do this after I found out what can happen when it's not cleaned off on my previous Car.

What car is this? I only ask as I have left bird dirt on my paintwork for days, weeks even, on my Toyotas and my VAG's and the paint has always been perfect underneath when I finally remove it...

I appreciate that this is no consolation to you, I'm just curious!

IPA is going to strip your wax/sealant/LSP too. Grab a good quick detailer (e.g. Mitchell & King QD) and keep a few sheets of thick kitchen roll and some new 70/30 or 80/20 microfibres in the car instead. Spray the kitchen roll until wet, lay gently on the bird bomb. Let it soak and then lift the tissue and spray liberally with more QD so the mess runs away. Don't rub it on your paint, as birds can and do eat grit, seeds etc which will mar your clear coat.

Thanks for the heads up :) Must look into that.

That was a good watch. I'm thinking of carrying a bottle of Meguiars Easy Mist & Wipe instead and dumping the IPA wipes. Is that a good detailer?

I've never used it, and I found their Final Inspection (a pro product which leaves nothing behind, unlike their consumer stuff) to be quite streaky. I couldn't really comment, but it seems to have decent enough reviews online. Try to find out whether it has silicone or similar in it (I'd avoid if so, personally). Is your car already waxed or sealed? If not I'd start there and get a QD that complements it... Welcome to the disease that is detailing. It soon turns into OCD. :o :D

lol! Yeah I used to use Showroom Shine which worked quite well but moved on to using a proper Wax instead after washing and drying then applying Autoglym SRP.
