Bird crap!

I had loads of issues with my Passat and used Ultimate Compound I think, sorted it out

Nothing else worked (didn't try the hairdryer)

Thanks again for the replies, its on the plastic bumper, so im not sure the hairdryer method would work.

I've contacted a few other body shops, its done less than 1000 miles, so i really want it looking 100%

I had the same issue, my Passat was brand new, so annoying

However, I recommend trying a compound first, Ultimate Compound is worth a try before you take it to a bodyshop

It's burned the surface of the clear coat, so the only way is to use a cutting compound. Or even very fine sand paper and then polish. A DA/machine polisher will probably do it in a couple of minutes.

Why not complain to dealer? after all its crap paint

Do you think I would have a valid argument?

This is from their t&c's

What’s not covered?
Damage due to factors beyond the manufacturer’s control
Examples of this could include:
• Misuse of the car such as driving over kerbs, overloading, racing, etc. You’ll find
proper usage described in the owner’s manual
• Events such as collision, fire, theft, riot, etc
• Alteration, modification, tampering, etc
• Damage or surface corrosion from the environment such as acid rain, airborne fallout
(chemicals, bird lime, tree sap, etc), salt, road hazards, hail, wind, storm, lightning,
floods and other acts of God
• Cosmetic conditions or surface corrosion from stone chips or scratches in the paint

How long did you leave the bird poo on there?

With my new car I always wiped off any bird crap as soon as I saw it, just a wet bit of tissue. Now that the car is several years old, the paint is a lot stronger so I tend to wipe it off after a week and it leaves no mark.

all sorted.

A mobile valeter came out and used a machine polisher and some autoglym polish, if you look really closely you can see a few very slight scratches, but only charged £10, so cheaper than buying polish and doing it myself

Well a whole bottle of Autoglym Super Resin polish can be had for under £10 and you'd have loads spare! But that is a good result nonetheless, especially if you don't have a rotary polisher. Could have been a pain to do by hand!

The little scratches should probably come out if you get annoyed by them in future so thats good. :)

This is what I currently do. Have a small bottle of water in the boot which I spray on...leave for a bit then lift off with a tissue. Seems to work well in between washes.

Ever since the bonnet incident i carry some spray detailer and also some spray wax to reseal after

I did buy a DA and some Compounds to fix the bonnet but i just havent had the time. Not to mention that i have lots of little bits i want to give attention too with the DA so i am putting it off lol
