Just a quick, completely pointless observation I have made.

I've been texting a couple of people from Birmingham and they are either stupid (they as in the two I've been texting, not the whole of Birmingham) or it is just the lingo they use? (they as in the whole of Birmingham).

They seem to replace 'are' with 'am' and it's doing my head in.

Am you going on holiday this year?
Am we going to meet up?
Am you going to come down?

Grrrr

/End of vent.

The same goes for Birmingham too.

Indeed.

Communicating with the locals presented quite a challenge when I first moved here, and still does. These days I just terminate the conversation with "I'm terribly sorry, but I only speak English" and walk away.

 I thought you'd lead with "G'day mate", and then invite people to "put shrimps in the barbie"?

It angers me too. Especially since I am from there and a fair few of my friends (*people from school on FB, not 'real friends') insist on speaking like it.

'Her works at British Gas doe a?'
'ar her does. u sid a? yam out Friday right? am ya cumin down pub?'

And so on..

I text a Geordie a lot of the time. and after every sentence she adds 'like'

e.g. I am going out tonight like

I can only text her for a short while before I get frustrated.
