is there anyway of checking whos parental name is on a birth certificate or is this impossible to do? Basically im looking to see if a baby is mine and i cant contact the mother. cheers for any help

you can get anyones no questions asked all you need is name and DOB goto the reg office where it would have been reg and then wait 24 hours and pay £8 (iirc)

I think you might be able to order them online, my friend was researching a family tree and did something similar.

You would have had to have been married to her for her to put you on the birth certificate without you being there in person.

A woman can only put a man on a childs birth certificate if she can produce the marriage certificate, otherwise he has to be there.

Thats why both parents have to be present when the birth is registered if they arent married, the fathers name cant go on it otherwise.

:)

Didn't take 24 hours when I needed my birth certificate for my passport. I just went in one lunch time, paid the fee and I was out again within quarter of an hour.

You can't get any information online within at least the last 50 years (could be 75 or more), that has to be done at Register House. Anyone can go there, but you do have to pay and I think you have to go early so it might be a good idea to call first. I think for births, you need to do it in the country they were born - ie a birth certificate for a child born in England won't show up in Scotland.

My mum is really into genealogy, so I've heard her talking a lot about how it's done, but I don't always take it in fully, so I could be wrong ;).

Otherwise I could have a baby and claim the father was anybody I wanted to put on there.

"Heres my baby, and the father is David Beckham"

If you have a marriage certificate then its a legally binding document, so is enough proof.

You can still find out if you're named im sure.
