Bit heavy with the right foot...

Your'e a genius :p

But, take brakes for example, the distance it takes to stop from 70mph in a 1970s car, I reckon is similar to the stopping distance of a modern car + the extra reaction time.
Plenty of 70's cars about still - and as they're tax and depreciation free, expect them to stay about for a long while to come! ;):D

You'd be shocked what doing 70 (downhill) in my Baja feels like. I couldn't even imagine 100.

will this just be 3 points? I went past a mobile van just over indicated 80mph on the a419, I was in a van however for which the speed limit is 60, so will be rougly 18-20mph over the limit, is it likely to be 3 or 6 points?

Don't forget, older cars are still on the roads. Combine idiots in older cars that don't have ABS or great stopping ability and you'll end up with more accidents. If ALL cars were modern ones I'd be inclined to agree with you, but I'm with Janesy B on this.
Also, combine idiots in modern cars closing in on older cars because they are doing 50mph more on the motorway and you have a recipe for disaster.

I have 1940's brakes and crossplies on my car and it pulls up just fine at motorway speeds. So well in fact that I've never shunted anyone in an emergency situation, nor in my old car which had cable drum brakes and could do 70mph.

It's brainlessness that's the problem. You have people who could barely get themselves through school, who can only just string a sentence together, unable to make rational intelligent decisions and they're allowed to drive

My problem is the drivers who think that the safe gap I'm leaving is theirs to take.

I'm leaving the gap for a reason!
