My server is getting an upgrade + overclock.

Im upgrading my whs system (WinSMP client) from an X2 4000+ stock to a 6000+ with an aftermarket cooler. Im going to clock it up till I cant go much higher. It currently gets 690PPD, so with the new chip im hoping for 1000PPD + Whatever overclock I can get.
The dedicated Q6600 folding rig will have to wait a couple of months until I can afford it.

Do you think its worth putting 2x1gb ram in it, or running it on 2x512? Does that make much difference to folding on a dual core?

Is it running SMP client? Some SMP work units like lots of RAM but if you set it to download "small" work units (add the -config flag to the fah command) you'll be fine with 1GB.

If you are a bit short on cash then don't go out and buy more RAM, may as well save your pennies and put it toward the Q box.

Nah, i just bought 2gb from the MM, that was going to go in the new box. Since ive got it open ill just upgrade anyway.

On a side note, ive noticed that Yeggstry has appeared in my list as a red marauder. 3.4 months till impact. Hmm, looks like ive got till then to hold the bugger off. Will have to leave the PS3 on longer . . .

I noticed. 1.2 months now. Eeep. I think its inevitable. Although my 6000+ arrives on tuesday. Im trying to convince my lass to let me borg 3x of her work pcs. hehehehe.

Well, X2 6000+ and Fahmon says its the same. But changing it to Last 3 Frames and it says 1216PPD. Not bad.
Overclocked the CPU to 3.15Ghz and boy does it run hot! They are not at all like the Core2's. So I aint going any further.

And when my RAM comes from the MM, it will get 2Gb ram too.
