Bit of a CPU dilemma with Corsair Vengeance

Hi there, just nearing the end of my build and im stuck on deciding which cpu cooler to buy. After finding out that my Corsair vengeance with high heatsinks will cause clearance issues with most CPU coolers (should have done my research!) im having a touch decision deciding what to do.

Originally, i was all for getting the Antec Kuhler 620, but was going to add 2 gentle typhoon fans in a push pull configuration. This was going to work out around £65, which then for £10 more i was thinking about getting the Kuhler 920.

On the other hand, iv now thought about replacing my memory with low profile ram so it opens up my choice a lot more with air coolers. I was thinking maybe something like the noctua d14 or thermalright silver arrow.

All this will be going into my Lancool k62 which says it supports a cpu cooler of upto 160mm.

So im after opinions guys, swap the memory and get a high end air cooler or get the Antec Kuhler?

Thanks

You could always take the heatsinks off the ram. They are pretty much only for show anyway.

The silver arrow and the D14 are pretty much the 2 best air coolers around though.

Not sure you would fit the silver arrow in that Lancool, it's listed as 160mm but is a couple of mm taller than that and will likely press on the side of you case.

any more advice people. im just wondering what would offer better cooling solutions in my case, an antec kuhler or air cooler?

I'd try and find out if the silver arrow will definitely fit in the case first as it really is a fantastic cooler at the price i've read one post on the net saying it fit in the same case as yours but i didn't know the site so is worth investigating further. Noctua D14 is very similar in performance and the Phanteks PH-TC14PE is slightly better than those and again slightly more expensive. Thermalright Venomous X is slightly cheaper than them all at about £42 but is almost as good.

Out of the water kits only the Corsair H100 about on par with the air coolers but falls behind by quite a bit if the fans are replaced on them all.

Just find the best one that'll fit in your case really, they're all good. Unless you only want it for looks and space then the only reason i'd get the H100 is if none of the good air ones fit in my case as it's more expensive and louder. Problem is that your RAM isn't going to fit with most of the air ones.

Performance comparison of most of the decent coolers on the market atm http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/cooler_master_hyper_612s_cpu_cooler_review,14.html

If you don't plan on overclock too much, the cm hyper212+ (i have used), or gelid tranquillo should be fine and you dont have to worry about your memoery modules. Or if you decide to get a bigger cooler, you can easily pry the heatsinks off the vengeance and replace it with low profile copper heatsinks. This is what I have done with mine.

I was planning on getting a 212 Evo since the plus version has vanished and they're essentially the same thing anyway.
So there shouldn't be any problem with fitting both it and the Corsair Vengeance? I have them in slot 2 and 4 on my P8Z68-V Pro.

Yes I had those last time and had no prblem . The evo is even better so it's a win win situaTion.
Good to know. It's for my dads new PC for Xmas and I'm nervous enough about installing the Evo since I haven't done it before. Last thing I needed was something like it not fitting round the RAM.
