OK - no laughing

My set up is an Intel 955Xbk motherboard with a P4 2.8D processor. The heatsink is a coolermaster universal unit which I bought from a well known retail store , this is much quieter than the standard Intel heatsink, and about a year ago I cut a hole in the side of the case to blow some cool air onto the heatsink with another 80mm fan

Despite this I think I'm getting high temperatures which is leading to drops in fps in games after a certain amount of time (5-10 minutes) - I have installed speedfan which is showing around 42 degrees in idle and 56-58 degrees after a few minutes in FS2004 .

Ca anyone recommend a better air cooling solution, should I be mounting the case cooling fans differently? I'm aware that I don't have a solution to draw the warm air out ?

cheers

John

I would suggest that you put some exhaust fan in that case. There seem to be spaces in the case where 2 fans can be attached.

I'd also consider a quiet intake fan if have one laying about.

Maybe also do a bit of cable tidying as this will improve airflow.

Have you checked your graphics card temperature? Intel pentium D's can take a lot more heat then 60C on load! You could download a program called Throttle watch to check though. I dont think your CPU is the problem here really.

Thats interesting Xez - thanks, I'll look into it.Looks like I might need some additional cooling around the graphics card .
