Bit of curious fun.... Be honest :p

bio matter for millions of years crushed under the weight of soil and rock above it... turns into oil.

Oil is actually formed when the planet gets indigestion. Every time a volcano burps, the planet swallows back its own vom, and it curdles into oil, a bit like s bio yoghurt it churns and creates friendly bacteria.

Extraction is even more innovative. Oil companies don't actually drill for oil. They tickle the ground with massive feather dusters until the Earth giggles and pees itself and occasionally poos itself too. They then bottle it up, slap a label on it and sell it as petrol or diesel or extra virgin engine oil. It just depends on where they collect the samples from.

Organic things are squashed and decomposed and that is crude oil.
Depending on where it is we drill a hole in the floor and and GET IT OUT.

Then a refinery turns it into various useful things. By refining it.
