I'm trying to name a few characters in a story I'm finally attempting to write but thus far all my ideas have been a little wanting.

The story will be set in the future, so I'm after slightly odd/futuristic names but not too outlandish.

Ideas please (both male and female)! :p

Wouldn't the names have to fit into the relevant characters, cultures and history for the story?

Say, for example, your story is set ~2200 in a world in which China has been the dominant power for a while, it's set somewhere in China and the character is Chinese. It'll seem a bit odd if they're called Mary or Johann or Giovanni, or whatever.

Seemly Ashfuit.

This was a mind burp, thinking that over thousands of years, words that mean something would become everyday names.

/drunk, soz.

Also, I am generally a reader of hard Sci Fi, Stephen Baxter, Greg Bear, et al.

Marcus Aurelius Antonius. Maybe there's a very retro fashion for ancient names in the society they come from.

True, but I really can't be bothered going into the background. Lest to say, imagine it's about 3-500 years from now at the very most.

Try and stick to more Western names for now. Just after something to get the muse ticking over.
