Bit of fun

Western names? Just take your pick from the huge amount of immegrants during the goldrush's.

You're not trying re-write Firefly are you?

Are you going to use the current method of personal name + optional additional personal name(s) + family name?

If so, I think it's likely that family names would be the same as they are now, unless something happened in the past of your story that would have caused a change.

Personal names vary according to fashion apart from a core that have remained unchanged or almost unchanged for centuries. So it would be perfectly reasonable to have names like John Baker and Mary Cooper in a story set 3-500 years from now. For others, it really could be anything, depending on the society. Names like Aurelia Starfire Nightbanisher Gloryfinder could be normal. Roman names could be back in fashion. It might be considered pretentious to have more than one personal name, or ridiculous to have only one. People might be obsessed with ancient (i.e. our time) video games and routinely name their children after them. Klingon might be widely used for naming. As an extreme example, people might even give their children names as ridiculous as, say, Fifi Trixibelle.

Just firstnames. I imagine that yes, these will be dependant largely on the fashion of the times, so they're open to any ideas.

Mainly I'm just after standard names, possibly with an interesting twist or spelling/pronounciation variation. For all we could guess, Scandinavian names - as an example - could suddenly have found themselves popular.

Zooey instead of Zoe is a good example.

Bad names would be boring or unadventurous names, such as popular American names like Chad or Tyler.

I'm really quite open to ideas here. As I said, if and when something jumps out at me, I'll know it when it does. Just - at present - names like Alex, or Dave seem a little dull for a protagonist's name.

EdGey

No seriously, it would be good if you named the characters after some members :)

Otherwise how about Crystal?

I can give you some real names from work (we have a book where we jot down the funniest ones from each shift) :p

Sickafoose and Pinfong are my favourites so far :p

Jifid
Kylo
Munin
Fudi
Gublo

Just some random ones :p
If you use any of them - I require my name to be in the credits and a free copy :p
