Hi there,

Got a friend who has a P4 Presscot on an ASRock 478 mobo with DDR RAM and a AGP graphics card.

So he has:

P4 Presscott
1GB DDR
ASRock P4I65G i865G Socket 478
Nvidia 7300 AGP
IDE HDD + 2 IDE CD-ROM
Generic 300W PSU

Now the problem is his mobo has died on him and he wants to the cheapest way to get it going again.

I have found his exact mobo for around £40 but he also needs/wants a new PSU as well.

Given that he needs a new mobo and wants a new PSU would he be better off getting the Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 and a E2180/E2200?

He could then continue using his current RAM and gfx card with room to upgrade...

So basically is the ASRock 4CoreDual mobo anygood and worth the extra monies he will be paying?

There is no way he will upgrade everything as he doesn't game loads and loads but will upgrade to this if it is worth it.

Hope it all makes sense...

Cheers in advance, Doug.

its a good replacement i would get that mobo if i was short on cash and a e2180 is superb

but im sure his ram is ddr1, the asrock needs ddr2 ram which you can get 2gig for £30-£40 from Ocuk

The ASRock motherboard supports 2 sticks of either DDR or DDR2 so it would be fine with the old Ram.

It isn't a fantastic motherboard for overclocking but for the money it is a great option as it allows you to upgrade in stages.
