My system is as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 3200 Newcastle socket 754 running at 200x11 multiplier
K8Upgrade-VM800 motherboard
1024Mb (2x512Mb) of Kingston PC2700 (166mhz) memory
Leadtek 6600GT
on-board sound
DVD drive
DVD rewriter

I've been doing some reading and found that ideally my system should be running the memory at 200mhz instead of the 166mhz its at now.Is this true?

What I really want to know is if I replace the memory with PC3200 will I notice any performance increase?
My motherboard supports up to DDR200 (i think)!.

Is it worthwhile buying another 1Gb of mem if the benefits are going to be negligible?

Thanks if anyone can help me!

Yes I know that.

What I'm saying is if I replace the 1Gb of PC2700 with 1Gb of PC3200,will there be a performance increase or would it not be worth the money?

OK, sorry about that.

I believe it should make a noticeable difference in performance, as the RAM should run at the same bus speed as the processor for optimal performance. However, please don't just rely on my response. I'd wait for other posters too.

If you want 2 gig - whatever you do don't buy & fit 4 X 512 sticks, it has to be 2X 1gig sticks with your AMD processor or system will run at slower 2T command & 3200DDR will still run at 166 Mhz, lots of threads all over the net re- this problem which doesn't apply to Intel & latest AMD64 processors ,

tbh the difference won't be huge. you might notice a difference in benchmarks but when it comes to day to day usage i think you would be hard pushed to tell..... :)

Remember that PC3200 is DDR400 & runs dual channel 200Mhz
