Bit of random advice needed - metal staircase.

I live on the top floor and to get in and out of my flat I have to access it via a metal staircase. Looks pretty much like a fire escape because the house I live in was converted from an office into residential and they just kept the same staircase.

Question is, with all this cold weather/snow/frosts, my stairs have become pretty treacherous. I cant put salt on the stairs because obviously as they are metal, they would corrode over time.

Anyone got any ideas as to what I can do? A long term solution would be preferable to something I have to do on a regular basis.

Sorry for this being a bit pointless but risking life and limb to get out the door to work at the moment is becoming a teeny bit tiresome.
:D

there is some grip type selotape stuff, one side is strong tape, the other side has yellow/black striped grips.

salt? its a flat not a house, i doubt you will be living there by the time they have corroded,

this is what i was on about

non skid tape

Rocket pack on back, take off at top of stairs and slowly lower yourself to ground or Firepole !!!!!

I was looking for serious answers (thanks to those who have posted them) but the "other" ones are making me chuckle too.
Someone want to film me with my various different attempts of getting down the stairs then?

If you promise to try all the above suggestions ;)

Throw petrol over it, it'll stop ice from forming. It'll make it slippery though so that sucks. You could set it alight before you walk up the steps, that'll burn off the slippery residue. Sorted.
