bit weird i know,
but i dont have much luck with house plants, i really like bonsai tree's but they tend to die off after a month or so.
so looking for something simple that i can have in the computer room to make it look nicer. It does get warm in there, but not much direct sunlight, will that make much difference if the house lights are on?
TIA

Spider plant. Mine is called charlotte, she gets watered occasionally, and seems very hardy.

PK!

Yes, a spider plant is your best bet. They actually thrive on neglect and are fine in dimly lit areas, and can go a long time without water.

You could also get a Phalaenopsis Orchid. They only need about an egg-cup of water a week and hardly need any looking after.

Indoor Bonsai trees.
They cost around £7 for a small pot, just need to soak them in water around once every fortnight, till the soil / roots are well hydrated. They can sit there looking all Zen and peaceful :) A tree on your desk, beats a cacti any day!

Only issue you'll need to worry about is snipping off the old leaves during your soaking session, takes 1 minute or so. They can last for years if you take care of it well, giving it sunlight but it isn't "needed" as long as there's light.
