BitFenix Ghost for Reviews!

Sounds like a plan!

Have an R2; was thinking of R4.... until Ghost was announced. ;)

No pressure.... but what you think of it will probably be my decision to buy or not to buy. :D

even though i didnt win a free case for review !! xbournex !! lol i will give it a through testing, and bearing in mind in putting in 4x 120mm case fans 2x 120mm rad fans, a spot fan and ram fans, my case will be noisy so we will see how well it does!!

Ok so now iv had time to play with my Ghost i can truly say it is a very well made case, very well thought out and great looks to boot.

Im not going to make a build log but i will give you some pictures to look at to make up your own minds.

So here is my case finished......

First thing i did was strip it down which is made very easy by just pushing down on the grills and they pop up from their grips. The front door it sound proofed and very sturdy and is also easy to swap orientations.
There are dust grills all round the door and surrounding vents which i hope will help keep my case clear (ish) of dust, solid floors do not help with dust O_o .

The ODD compartments are tool less as well and literally snap in place ;)

The top has this great compartment for hot swapping HDD's and SSD's or if like me you will have all your drives in the case then Bitfenix give you a little cover for the sata and power connectors :).
I will be using mine to hide my stash of....................................... many USB sticks!! (dont know what you were thinking i was about to say ;) lol ).

The top vent is amazing as i see that Bitfenix have left enough room for a 240mm rad or 280mm rad to be mounted up there NOT in the case reducing room near the socket!!

See how much space is above the VRM's and socket?

The possibilities to make a custom WC loop in this case are good but due to what i see as space limitations you would have to think hard where to locate everything.
I have been following Fruergaard doing an x79 water build in a Bitfenix Prodigy HERE which is amazing to see so nothing is impossible! I think with a little modification you could get a 240mm rad at the front, 280mm at the top and 120mm/140mm at the back (mounted out side, tube hole provided by Bitfenix ;) ), but you would have to mount your HDD's and SSD's some how??

The next thing was to load in all my drives (two SSD's and one HDD), i new this was going to be easy as it was in the prodigy.
The drive trays are tool less and just snap in the holes of the drive, but what i really LOVE about this case is the fact that the Ghost has three dedicated SSD tray and four dedicated HDD trays!

If you have a big GPU then the SSD tray are positioned in line with the first PCI-e slot but if it is still too big then it can be fully removed O_O!

Cable management is very easy with this case the grommets are a nice touch and there is plenty of room behind to do some serious cable management ;)

Below the case is a big magnetic dust filter which you need to remove to add a fan to the bottom. I like this feature a lot as it really simplifies the cleaning of the filter.

As for the sound "proofing" of this case i would say it is average to good. The weight of the case stops any rattles, there are rubber pads provided for the PSU and the bottom has decent rubber feet.
The plastic/rubber HDD/SSD trays create 0 noise and the rubber grommets for the cabling stop them from rattling as well.
The tool less ODD trays are very strong and really hold everything in place with no rattles.

My one and ONLY gripe would be that IF i didn't have an H100 (or if i were not to do a custom WC loop) then the roof vent gives out to much noise from the fans inside.
The Corsair 550D has sound proofing on its top vent so if you left it closed and were not using a CSWL or custom WC'ing then no sound would escape where as this one does BUT as i do use the H100 then it does not bother me ( i know that statement sounded like a contradiction, its not meant to).

Over all i would give this case -

5/5 looks
5/5 expansion (top hot swap, SSD/HDD trays)
4/5 customization possibilities
4/5 build quality
4/5 sound proofing
5/5 for the actual thought that has gone in to this case

5***** to Bitfenix for this case ;)

Build look's very nice!

Shame they didn't sound dampen the top, same deal in my Silencio case. Tbh though I don't think sound proofing does that much for pc's other than make temps worse.

Nice pictures, no view behind the motherboard tray though? Would be nice to see the cable management at the back. :)

Love that power supply, really nice cables.

Hey Buzz nice review there I see your Ghost arrived. Did you get an e-mail saying it would be delivered on a certain day or did it just turn up?

Yes like i said im not gonna do a build log, just a through description and ty for your comments ;)

I got an email saying it was on its way, still not got yours?

No nothing on my end :/ emailed them a few days ago asking when it would arrive but no reply.

I have not got mine either but since it was something free I guess I cant complain eh? Would be nice for an update but if it doesn't come I haven't lost out at least.

Good news! :D

Case just arrived today, would have liked some prior warning as I was in the middle of a shower but hey ho ;)

I will be getting down to the proper review next weekend when I have enough time to do the review properly! But here are some initial impressions:

Black, very black, in fact a lot blacker than I was expecting. Looks like something out of Draccula, just sitting there very menacingly. The quality of the case in general is very good. Thumbscrews are nice and smooth but not slippery, the side panels don't flex and even the fan filters feel like they are made of cast iron! :p

But, (and this is a big but) the moment your hand touches the door at the front only one word springs to mind. Cheap. :( I was really disappointed with this as the rest of the case looks and feels fine but the front door is made of a plastic you might find in a Kinder egg :(

Looks wise its very sleek and boxy like apart from the curve at the bottom. There are plenty of ports on top and it looks very smug sitting on my desk! :)

Are you sure it isn't your own smug mug reflection you see sitting at your desk? :D

Nice new case and all.

Look forward to following your build and review. ;)

It might be my reflection :D

Its a shame an e-mail hadn't been sent in advance otherwise I would already have made this day cleared for the review! :(
