Evening all,

Just a quick question regarding fan set-up on my BitFenix Ghost case....looking for some thoughts/opinions. According to HWMonitor my i5 3570k @ stock idles between 29-34C and my 7970 idles around 42C.

Under P95 the CPU reaches mid 60's and under 3D Mark 11 the GPU hit 69C.

Just wanted to ensure I've got the best possible set-up. I have 4 fans in total.

  • 2x 120mm BitFenix Whisper-Quiet Spectre
  • 1x 140mm Antec TriCool 3 Speed
  • 1x 120mm Antec TriCool 3 Speed

My set-up at present is:

I just want to get an idea of what the optimal set-up is...I don't think I have enough cold air entering the case at present.

Thoughts?

2 front intake
1 rear intake
2 top exhaust

is what I would do, its what I'm going to do with my fractal arc midi R2 when it's available.
You want more intake than exhaust.

I've always read that the rear fan should always be a exhaust, as air should flow through the case and out of the rear. Intakes in front and bottom, exhaust at top and rear.

Hmm my PSU cables would make it difficult to put a fan at the bottom.

Should have got a modular lol

This is exactly why I love cases with a side intake. More cool air in targetted at the GFX slots!

But yeah, I'd switch the rear to an intake to 2 in 2 out.

In an ideal situation yes lukie, but I think its more important to maintain positive pressure. In this situation he's either going to have negative pressure or neutral pressure unless he flips the rear to intake.

Not like it matters, the air from the rear intake will be sucked out by the top fans anyway (works well with a radiator) as the hot air gets sucked out by the top quickly. I had my midi like this for a week (before I sent it back due to the R2 coming out) and it worked pretty well.

The only foreseeable issue with this is that my CPU fan is sucking air from the front of the case to the back, i.e. right into the rear exhaust fan. Surely flipping that around would conflict that?
