My beloved OH has been invited to appear on this program. The consultant from Norfolk and Norwich hospital that treated him after he nearly managed to 'own' himself some years ago put his name forward and the makers of the program contacted us last week.

I'm really not sure about it all as it brings back some weird feelings about the whole thing, which was 9 years ago. I suffered really bad PTSD for some time after as a result and the program makers are going to show original X-rays and photos.

BTW, there's no payment involved in this. Ho Hum.

No payment? So what's the incentive?

This isn't the 1970s - being on TV has absolutely no cachet these days.

Obviously, this is something you need to speak to him about, so that he's aware of your trepidation.

Is there a benefit to him appearing? Would it help him? Would it help other people by sharing his experiences? I've no idea what "Bizarre ER" is, but if it's some freak show type programme where it's just pure entertainment pointing at people with self inflicted injuries then unless he's going to be paid I don't see any reason to do it.

As he lost his eye and had half his face re-built, he wants to let more people know that there is life after this kind of thing. He has helped a few people over the years who have suffered facial trauma and loss of an eye and so feels that this would get the message over even more.

I have only seen 2 epsiodes and both have featured people who have gone through life threatening incidents so it may be a regular feature.

You dont sound to comfortable with this idea.

Talk with your other half and let them know how you feel.

Whatever decision they make, at least you gave them your opinion and can take it from there should you wish to do so.

Just in case anyone's interested, the new series starts on May 10th and the one featuring my beloved OH is on at 11 pm as they're showing 2 episodes on the same evening.

Oh, and he's the one with the boat winch through his left eye. :D

It's on tonight - not going to watch it myself though I'll wait to hear how graphic it is from friends as I'm not sure that I'll want to see some of the photos they were proposing to show.

Oh god just flicked this on as his story started. When you first said PTSD I thought you may have been a bit of a pansy,,, maybe not.

I saw this last night. I knew there was an OCUK connection, but didn't know if it was this episode or not. Forgot all about it really, and was waiting for it to finish and for Family Guy to come on!

Wow! Is all I can really say. How he survived, yermum, I'll never know. He's a very lucky man.

To answer your question, Dunk1, yermum's other half was stood on a boat, suffered a blow to the head from the rear (sliding deck or something - blow itself potentially fatal) which caused him to fall forwards. The handle of a winch (think it was the sliding deck winch) was protruding and went through his eye and into his skull - smashing it to pieces.

Unfortunately, sight in the effected eye was lost and he was given a glass eye. To reconstuct his face/facial features, surgeons sliced his head open ear to ear, over the top of his head, and peeled his face off to access his cranium.

Holy crap! I saw this last night as I was going to bed! That guy was your OH!? I hadn't seen this thread at all so am quite shocked there is an OcUK connection!

I only saw the first few minutes as they showed the reconstruction of what happened on the boat pushing his head forward and the arm of the winch going through his eye at that point I went "arrrghghhhh" and flicked the channel. I'm quite squeamish with stuff about eyes.

That is unbelievable stuff and he looks remarkably well for someone to go through that event and still be alive.
