I have this wierd random freezing problem. It has happened a lot in the past 2 days. It has happened during mundane tasks (watching a movie, or browsing the web). Bizarrely, it does not happen during intense apps (eg gaming at full Res STALKER, Oblivion etc). The freeze is a screen freeze; if sound is on, it will do that awful buzz sound, but sound in still works fine (eg optical in from TV) I have to then switch off using the power button; reset does not work.
I have done the following. RAM is fine, HDs are fine, GPU (2900XT is fine) as it happens with another card I tried and reinstalling Vista makes no difference.
I cut down the devices in the PC to a minimum and it still randomnly happens.
Just now, I reduced the OC to 2.8Ghz and got rid of Speedstep.
I dont think it is the RAM/CPU/GPU as it does not happen in gaming at all. It seems to happen during near idle tasks.
What do you think?
