Bizzare BF2 problem

i play on a winchester 3000+ 1gb ram non of it OC'ed and it plays okay!

My Rig is 2 1/2yrs old ;-

P4 3.2 HT, 512 ddr 3200 + 256 piece of crud ram, XT9800 rad 256mb (underclocked to slowest speeds as its knackered)

bf2 -Screen Res 1340*1024(highest monitor will reach) textures,terrain,lighting=low,all other settings on med,visibility max.

i have an acceptable frame rate in bf2 even on 64player , anything between 20-45+ fps) and can even run fraps to record whilst playing, this drops fps to around 10-15fps (eek!)

bf2 went through a stage of total unplayability before say xmas, 5-10fps on small maps .

i used version 10 of disk keeper prof to defrag the HD ran spyware progs and virus checked, i repeated this process over and over having to free up 30gig on my HD. After spending hrs and hrs doing the same process i found that bf2 loaded quicker - and my frame rate jump up.

i now run bf2 same way but WITH AAx2 and its even better.

not sure if this will help you, but sometimes the obvious checks do work.

yes but will it run ok at 1600 x 1200 with 4xAA and 8xAF ?

according to the benchmarks, my graphics card should but it isnt

i can play 1680 x 1050 with no aa or af all day long.

Well through playing the game on a lot of different system configs i came to the conclusion htat on a top end card like a 7800 or x1900 bf2 is cpu bound in some instances, particularly on maps like sharqui with 64 players. On my system the fps is always around 70-80 on the big maps but can drop into the 30's on karkland with 64 players when there is a lot of action on screen.

Athlon 64 3700 @ 2.5 ghz, main maps for lag are the three city ones, karkland sharqui and mashtuur city. On 64 player servers when things get real busy fps can go down to about 30. For instance when playing karkland on 64 players at the start when everyone is at the front it usually runs at about 30 fps. Running my cpu overclocked from stock made a difference.

Really odd as i run an opty at 2.4 and a X850XT and BF2 runs fine. It must be something else. Try playing single player on those maps m8.

Im running an Athlon 64 3500+ with 2GB Ram and a 6800GT so theres no excuse why it should run fine, it has before.

Bang on the same as me and I don't have any problems.CPU is not overclocked but the GPU is at ultra speeds.

runs fine at what ?

im not saying that i cant get BF2 playable. Im saying i cant get bf2 playable at 1680 x 1050 with 4xAA and 8xAF

it will do 1680 x 1050 with no AA or AF all day long.

Ah ok.

I only have a 17" so its at 1280x1024.
